Depends on a few things.

The most important one is if Americans rise to the challenge. As the old Star Trek saying goes, "it's easy to be a saint in paradise." Americans have been patting themselves on the back for decades about our democratic cred without it truly being threatened by an internal threat. We talk a great game, but really, it was our forebearers, three, eight or nine generations removed, before many American's families even immigrated here, that actually last truly fought tyranny on our shores. The closest owe know is our grand parents or great grand parents fighting tyranny in World War II and removing people like Saddam Hussein from power.

Well here we have, Donald Trump, American Would be authoritarian figure. If Americans rise to the challenge in months and years ahead, when the Trump era comes crashing down - and it will one way or another, either through his removal/resignation or its natural end - we will have our own life experience and a story to tell our kid about how we, living Americans, resisted tyranny. We'll be able to pat ourselves on the back about something we actually did, rather than our trusteeship of our democratic inheritence.

It's just like NASA and Apollo 13. A disaster for sure, but one that also produced one of American's finest hours. Donald Trump's ascension is a black day for this country and a defilement on conservatism, liberalism, and most of all Americanism.
