I used to live in Ireland 9 years ago and this was definitely not a problem that was on the radar then (not part of the UK I know) why have British people all of a sudden decided to mutilate female genitalia?

Hard to police and there seems to be no real interest in prosecutions.

The article states (FGM) is either discovered or treated. Most of it goes on in other countries mainly those from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Somalia and Sudan are affected. Then it gets 'discovered' and stats go in the NHS. Its a very fringe problem in the UK.

It is mostly muslim people, especially those of east- and north africa. It happens a lot with arabs as well. Religion off? No, yours is.

Eritrea - 50% muslim (the christian ones don't have these rites)
Somalia - Islamic country
Ethiopia - 34% muslim
Nigeria - mostly muslim
Sudan - completely muslim

British in passport only. Not British in identity. The only thing that they have common with British culture is that they probably drink tea. They wouldn't be able to tell you anything about local traditions/customs nor histories.
