What do you think the cause of this sudden spike in abuse of the system is, then? Because this has, to my knowledge, never been an issue before despite the system being unaltered for years. Do you have any guesses as to what would be causing the sudden spike?

The problem is Trion have set up their system and have expected that the players will conform to it, and are now saying that it's the fault of those same players that it's broken. In any other industry blaming your customers for your product having serious flaws is inexcusable.

This is a quote from someone who works at Riot on how they plan to deal with players abusing one of their in game systems, taken from their latest Q&A.

What do you plan to do about autofill trolls who pick purposefully-bad supports and force other people to dodge? Why not a vote-to-leave system?

First, we agree with the community that holding champion select hostage isn’t an acceptable thing for players to do. Being able to choose your position isn’t a guarantee that you’ll get your primary selection every time — we need all players to take their turn playing other positions either via secondary choice or autofill so the system can get people into a game in a reasonable amount of time. This obviously works best when people lean into the role they’re assigned and try to do the best they can.

We don’t have immediate plans to address champ select trolls, but we are closely monitoring autofill behavior and dodge rates and will adjust our priorities if needed. One of the common requests we hear about is vote-kick, vote-to-leave, or similar systems. We’re unlikely to do this because they are too easy to game, promote conflict within champion select, and could punish players who don’t want to pick the FOTM/OP/counter to the enemy lane (we’ve all seen a negative player say something like, “Camille gg” in champ select and would rather not allow mentalities like that to have undue influence on the champions players choose).

Instead, we’re more likely to make a system that lets you give us feedback after you dodge on why you didn’t want to play that game. It may be that a particular person was acting poorly, maybe you just didn’t like the team comp and wanted a do-over, or maybe you wanted to go make a sandwich! Feedback like this could help us spot dodge trends, which could then lead to new features or solutions around those trends. Player Behavior has a few high-priority things on its plate at the moment, but this is definitely something we want to circle back on.

In the meantime, you’re still able to report players who are assigned a role but refuse to play it in-game, since the expectation is that players will at least try their best.
Why do I bring this up, you ask? Well first of all the general opinion is that LoL has by far the worst gaming community outside of Xbox live for one, it's wrong, but thats the perception by gamers at large.

Secondly is that Riot, at no point, blamed the players for taking actions that were harmful to the game. They accepted that there was an issue, detailed what it was, then have outlined some of the steps they're already taking to solve it. Admitedly, that amounts to "We'll gather some data then get back to you on it", which while not a great reply, at least points to Riots willingness to make changes.

But the key point here is that Riot has designed their current system around their playerbase. They know that if theres anything players can abuse, chances are they will at some point. They're not trying to strongarm players into conforming to it when they realise it's short comings, instead they're taking it upon themselves to improve on their ideas. While they've not outlined any concrete plans, they have acknowledged the issue and said they're willing to work on improving it should the need arise.

Compare that to Trion's attitude. Which is "You guys broke it, so now we're taking it away. This is why you can't have nice things!". It's very clear one of these game companies has taken into account their players when designing their systems in the first place, while one is winging it at this point.

It's close, though I think it's a Facepalming Q and Data away from being perfect. You score full marks for effort though .

Then by your logic 99% of the people here are "crying" at Rift because well the majority of posters in here are vocally critical of the game. Especially something like this where they won't fix their bugs and then try to pin it on the player instead of their own system. Literally only 1 person in this entire sub forums defends Trion and posts the news and without him the sub forum wouldn't be active.

I'd be pretty pissed in any game if I legitimately earned an achievement and it couldn't be fixed because of a "limited number of bug fixes" aka our system is broke and it's all the players fault because they keep asking instead of us bugfixing.

I can agree that it is hard to grant achivements if it is not possible to track that the player actually did it. However, if there is "proof" provided by the player, like a video or a screenshot or something then they should assist the player no matter of how many of these "proofs" the players hand in.
But if there are many broken achivements for the expansion, and you as a company know that you don't have enough staff to support players with the bugs, then it is better to just deactivate the achivements until they are properly fixed. It would probably be the best solution for all parts. If they decide to still keep broken achivements live and activated, they must be prepared to handle a lot of the player complaints if they are broken.
