With the EC, a candidate does not need to get to 50%, which would have mean that neither Trump, or Hillary would have been initially elected. That means people can easily vote for their candidate of choice, and any party that wanted those votes would have to shift in order to gain favor of those voters.

That would mean that million of voters who didn't like either candidate, would not feel obligated to vote for either one. Instead, they would either support the candidate they actually liked, and then the top two would then have to concede in order to fight for those votes in a runoff. You can see examples of this in literally dozens of other countries. How many countries in the world who use the Electoral College have viable third parties?

Ross Perot is a perfect example why you won't see a 3rd party POTUS even without the EC. Also there is no way we would ever not have the EC, this country was founded on states rights and to let a few highly populate states determine the rights of other states would never happen under the current government.

The entire first section is titled " RAISE INCOMES AND RESTORE ECONOMIC SECURITY FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS". It follows that with "CREATE GOOD-PAYING JOBS" and "FIGHT FOR ECONOMIC FAIRNESS AND AGAINST INEQUALITY". All three sections deal specifically and in detail with the challenges facing working- and middle-class Americans, including a particular focus on communities in the Rust Belt and other areas that have been left behind by the collapse of manufacturing in those areas.

The Democratic Party was touching on exactly those issues, in detail, and both acknowledging the issues and proposing solutions. Claiming that Clinton ignored them is completely untrue. So either you never even looked at the Democratic Party's platform during the entire election (meaning you had no idea what the Democrats stood for, no clue at all), or you're straight-up lying about it.

You don't get to make up your own alternative reality. We all get to deal with the same set of facts. When they don't line up with your ideological views, it means those views are wrong, not that the facts should be ignored.


This is how Trump won the election. Straight-up lying to a voting populace that was largely too apathetic to bother checking to see if he's got a point. People just blindly believed whatever garbage he and his supporters pushed.

But you aren't actually arguing your point. "It will never happen" is not the same as arguing that a popular vote inhibits a 3rd party. We have plenty of examples of countries that do use the popular vote, and have multiple political parties. I fully understand that we will likely always have the EC, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing. It promotes the two-party system, because one only need beat a single other party in order to get all the votes within a state. Can you identify any country that uses an electoral college, and has multiple parties in power?

As for the EC itself, it is nothing more than affirmative action. It is forced inequality, so that people will feel more special. I'll take personal freedoms and equality over states' rights any day of the week.

Actually it was raining. With plenty of proof of it.

As for you not actually seeing it personally, fun fact, rain has actually proven difficult to see on film unless in huge amounts and properly shot. This has been known for decades and to actually properly get shots of rain in many old videos they actually put in a little color die into the water they sprayed out to simulate rain to give enough contrast to it that it actually would show up on the film.
