873 Fire mage, need help with DPS

Okay, so for my gear I (and my raid leaders) really think I should be doing more damage on fights. I'm mainly specced for single fights, and I tend not to switch over - but even on single target fights it seems too low. I've tried to match up my procs for best timing and also using them whenever they're off cool down - including my Troll racial.

    Here's my Warcraft Logs - https://www.warcraftlogs.com/ranking...9432781/latest

    My armory - http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte...tsumi/advanced

I've since gotten a new ring and a new wrist item, but I haven't placed them on yet to help figure out what's going on with my DPS.

ur talent is pretty passive use LB on aoe fights

andbtw trash every gear that dont have cirit even if it have high ilvl u need 55-60 cirit to shine

Your trinkets are both garbage for fire, get stat sticks this will also majorly increase Mirrors (TW is horrific in all scenarios and Sinew was nerfed with the ROP/Combustion changes)

The rest of your gear is ok but you will suffer with not having bracers or belt legendry's and you're currently playing one of the worst dps specs as fire is not in a good place right now.

As for your skill as a mage you need to work on your opener

    https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...&view=timeline

This is a bit of a mess, your zerking and combustion should typically be popped together you should prepot and pot again in the fight with (prolonged power currently) i see no reference to this at all and although your armoury now shows you have Images I see no use of them on this fight you have linked this is millions of damage lost.

This is my initial opener below, the issue with yours is you're not getting enough pyros into your combustion and failing to line things up correctly with massive gaps between casts on the combustion window. Compounded with poor gearing choices like the trinkets/legendry's and casting way too many fireballs without converting them to pyroblasts (which may be due to crit but take note pyro should be your top damage) then on top of that no pots and not using the skills you have selected like mirrors.

AOE is where fire shines. Why would you choose fire to talent into ST DPS? Also why choose incanter's flow??

I'm finally making my way past 50% critical strike and I can tell a huge improvement in fireball to pyro conversion. This is especially true when casting fireball with a hot streak giving another hot streak.

The irony is get tier and you will see it snowball backwards

    850 Nightmare Bloom 1295 int, 979 crit

I try to pop both right after the other, then open up Mirror Image - which I know I used on several of the fights.

As for the legendary, sadly I started late and that's the only one I have right now.

I convert my crits to pyros whenever I can with either FB or PoF. The only times I don't is when they're on CD.

I'll work on my opener. Thank you for sharing yours.

As for Incanter's Flow, I'm currently using Mirror Image?

AMR is completely useless concerning trinkets. You need to run simcraft and even this tool does not simulate all trinkets correctly. There is a thread on altered time for fire makes. There is quite a helpful trinket list for current max gear.

  11. #11
@Tutsumi - is this based on custom weights that you got running a sim in AMR (it takes about an hour to run)? Here's a guide on running that http://i.imgur.com/r2gpuBW.jpg

@Berkhtar - hey, not sure if you know this, but for legion, we rank all items with procs directly from simulations. When you run a custom gearing strategy (stat weights) on AMR, we also simulate every single item with a proc, and then bundle that information in the stat weight report. So then all trinkets are ranked from those simulations.

Also, as you pointed out, static trinket lists are only for one setup. The one you mentioned is for people who have max gear. Running a custom sim on AMR will give you results tailored to your current character. If you try it out, hit me up. If something looks wrong, I will look into that right away.

Why is it that even with customized weights, it still tries to lower my crit when I'm not anywhere near 50% yet?

Tutsumi - I ran a custom gearing strategy for you, and then compared it to getting the 50% crit mark you mentioned.

AMR Machine learning: 390,875, 42% crit.
Adjusted weights with a 50% crit goal: 387,986 DPS, 50% crit.

So to answer your question: the reason Mr. Robot takes away a little crit, is because it is better for you

Ayo hol' up. Are you saying..you get -6 seconds on combustion cd with kindling and pyrotex? I knew this legendary wasn't good, but 6 seconds?

But isn't that kind of going against what everyone's saying of going crit and forgetting gear without it? I'm just a bit confused, that's why I'm asking.

Same thing for the trinket again. Even with custom weights it's suggesting for me to use Twisting Wind, which in this thread was said to be a crap trink.

General guidelines are a place for people to get started. They aren't custom to every person's setup. Running your own stat weights will always be more accurate. And in the case with AMR, our Machine Learning handles stat balancing automatically (stat weights alone, do not).

As for trinkets, I ran a setup that looks at all of the trinkets available to you (in your bags). This can be done on the simulator by changing the sim type (on the right) from 'single run' to 'custom batch.' In the list that shows up, you'll see 'items' toward the bottom. You can select the trinkets and choose to show all items in your bags.

The report shows that most of your trinket combos are within 1k DPS of eachother. So at that point, pick what you like best.

As for the twisting wind, here's the history behind that:
When Legion launched, AMR had 100% of the tornadoes hitting the boss. SimC has 30%. Once logs came out, I dug through a couple hundred logs to collect data on how many tornadoes really hit bosses. I found that on large bosses that don't move a lot, 80-100% hit the boss. One bosses that have small hit boxes or move a lot, 60-80% hit the boss. So we picked an average of 80%. I sent the findings to some of the SimC people, who decided to be more conservative and set it at 60%.

So you'll see Twisting Wind rank lower with SimC, higher with AMR. If you want to assume a different # of tornadoes hit the boss than 80%, you can edit that here. Scroll to the bottom and look for the 'chance (percent)' set it 0.8. Edit that and you're all set. (You need to be logged in to edit it. Click the blue 'clone' link on the upper left, under the drop downs. Then an edit button will show up on the page).

I did that for you, and you can see Twisting Wind drops by about 2k DPS.

+200 intellect enchant on cloak and mark of the hidden satyr on neck should also help you. You can always wait with the neck enchant till you have a better neck, but the 895 cloak with socket is def worth a +200 int enchant. Also, the pyromaniac talent isn't really needed since Conflagaration is almost just as good on ST and a lot better once there is a 2nd target present.

Why are you running Unstable magic on every fight? It's around 1-2% dmg on pure ST and living bomb easily does more than that on cleave fights. Make sure to change talents around the fights. There's no cookie cutter build anymore, and on fights with a lot of adds RoP is the go-to talent given that these adds have to die in time (Tichondrius, Spellblade)
