In nations that want democratic control via the voting booth there is a strict delineation between the police and the military, and a great way to end that is to start using the military against internal "threats". It normalizes the use of the military for internal control and is the oldest trick in the book for ending a free society and bringing in a dictatorship. Every fascist dictator in history has done this in some form or other - there are no exceptions. This is WHY in free societies there is such a delineation between the police and military, and why those free societies have developed norms that make such use of the military anathema. Its a self-protection mechanism, and if it goes then eventually so will your and everyone elses freedom.

So if you see nothing wrong with this, with what is being proposed, I don't know what to tell you.

The problem is the National Guard, or any branch of the military DOESN'T ENFORCE LAWS. That's not their job. The military, regardless of branch, is for waging war. That's what they're trained to do, that's what they're equipped to do, that's what they're ordered to do. So when you engage a portion of the military to do a thing, what you are doing is engaging them to wage a war. And wars waged by people with guns against people without guns are the hallmark of tin-pot dictatorships.

An "early, early document" created by staff at Homeland Security passed it around, and there's no indication that Trump even knew it existed, saw it, or discussed it at all. And there's no plan to implement it. So it's not fake news, but it's fake news adjacent. There is a document, but with the information we have right now, there's no indication or evidence that Trump even saw the document, much less is planning to implement it.
