It's a little bit offtopic but: Why it is the final heroic sacrifice of Krasus when he destroys all the sanctums and their eggs because they were infected but when Arthas destroys Stratholme and kilsl the inhabitants, because they were infected, it is sooooo evil? That sounds pretty much some double standart from Blizzard.

btw, there's an answer from muffinus about this

the sanctums were destroyed, the dragons just decided to re-create them.

This could draw back to the Hour of Twilight--we thought we had gotten rid of his strongest pawn, but in reality we lost the Aspects' powers in doing so.

Basically they forgot their own lore again and refuse to change the quest.

Is muffins even on the lore team?

Muffinus is officially a senior game designer, but he always seems to have a keen interest in the lore as well.

Exactly my thoughts. To me it seems like they got called out again and quickly made up some explanation.

Pretty much. I don't even consider purging Stratholme a villanous thing as the denizens were in the process of turning into the undead/were already largely undead with no known cure or chance of being cured; I am speaking of the Warcraft 3 representation of things because during the campaign you do not encounter even one citizen that wouldn't turn into an undead. Every single one of them was turning.

The WoW dungeon that depicts it makes it look a lot more unconsiderate and villanous though, so my opinion on this depends from which game's aspect it is taken.

Those that justify Krasus because "he had no time" should take their time to justify Arthas; we are talking about a young prince who had the fate of all his people in his hands and decided to sacrifice one city for the survival of all the others.

How do you place the city under quarantine if you have no idea how undeath works, other than that ingesting infectious grain causes you to turn into the undead and that the light can smithe them down. Someone who looks normal and passes the barrier can turn into an undead five minutes later.

To impose a quarantine in Warcraft's universe, they'd have to kill anyone who refuses to stay within the city, while at the same time whoever stays in the city would either be turned into an undead or killed and raised into one. While doing this, they'd have to fight off an ever-increasing number of undead under the command of Mal'ganis, all along while the rest of the kingdom was getting consumed by undeath.

not to mention strat has a port. Artha's decision to kill everyone was shitty, but it was the only choice.

Krasus did not have the benefit of time. They knew the moment those whelps hatched they would be born as twilight creatures. The twilight state makes the creatures mature and die at incredible rates and if they were allowed to escape they would tilt the balance in favor of Deathwing and lead to the destruction of Azeroth.
arthas dident have the benefit of time either, the land of loderan was becoming infected, and it was not just stratholme
qaruntining stratholme would have most likley caused loderan to fall to the plague as yes qarunteening may have stopped from those not infected being killed by arthas and his men, but as we see, a majority of the residents turned infected, and those who dident would be murdered by their friends and family

time was not a thing arthas had... as we see he rushed to hearthflen and it was still too late... eating their bread they turned in near minutes after eating, and the turning process took seconds

As for how to enforce a quarantine; there are two gates, you seal those gates.
yes... but then what? the infected inside will try to get out and have to be killed
the "not infected" will try to get out, and there is no way to tell if they are infected or not, so they will need to be killed, or forced back into the city, because letting them out they could turn any minute, and forcing them back into the city would be worth then killing them
and the ones trapped inside that are not infected will be killed, or starve, or eat the grain then turn corrupted

thing is yes arthas made the right choice, its a horrible choice... but the right one...

    1. they know nothing of the plague
    2. they know it spreads very easily
    3. they dont think it can be cured
    4. all of loderan is being infected, they cant simply take care of one city, each minute any and every town could turn
    5. they know that bread spreads it, other things could aswell, but they know bread does, and everyone eats bread...
    6. malganis is in the city... even those not infected could be traps placed by him, they could be him, and malganis could make qaurnteen very dificult

and the last and most important...

would you rather have a quick painless death from your prince?

or ripping out the neck of your loved ones with your teeth, trapped in your own body, unable to control yourself, but fully able to tell what you are doing?

(btw we know that when you become infected by the plague well living, once turned you lose control off your body, but you still have your brain for awhile, we saw this in nax when a married couple where there, and the female was injected with the plague, she started murdering her husband, all well crying and screaming)

it would've been 10 times better letting that one city raze itself to the ground, than fail to cleanse it completely from infected and let it spread even further.

letting it raze itself wouldent work, simply the undead woudl infect the others then leave the city and that would be a massive army of undead, commanded by malganis

also arthas was looking out for his people, again

"would you rather have a quick painless death from your prince?

"i can only help you with a clean death"

btw lets get off stratholme, and get back to 7.2 stuff cause stratholme has nothing to do with 7.2

I think the problem with Arthas is not if he had a choice or not, as his choice didn't really come from a rationalization of his options and came to conclude that indeed there was no other choice. Arthas simply had an idea in mind and lost no time to impose it to everyone; he would have had it his way or no other. He didn't even consider for a mere second the possibility of alternative options; he saw his rather extreme idea the only good and right one and expected everyone to jump on it without question. He outright refused to question himself.

I don't really believe Arthas had "no other choice". I think he simply went for the most convenient one, that one option guaranteeing a profitable result without any risk taken. Arthas simply possessed the right amount of ruthlessness in him to properly consider the "easy choice" where many others wouldn't had. Agree or disagree with him, that's the thought process Arthas most likely had.

Not to mention Arthas either Killed them out of mercy or mal'ganis would claim them to swell the ranks of the Scourge.

The Mal'Ganis and the Cult were ripping through the city taking the people. Arthas didn't have the luxury of waiting. Even the instance shows you undead and the cult patrolling the city like they own the place.
