I think he genuinely believes the media is against him and pushing the narrative down to the people of 24/7 Anti-Trump rhetoric. He is right to a degree.
But calling out the media will not have the desired effect. Unless his desired effect was them giving him more publicity on a non-issue while he does other shady shit without any coverage.
Donald Trump is a conman. When he talks about news organizations being fake news it is because he doesn't want you to pay attention to what he is actually doing.
You don't have to be a fool to fall for a conman, but once a conman is exposed you would be a fool to fall for his act again.
We have the same problem in Sweden, the media is trying to tell us how to think and act, instead of giving us the information which is why alternative media is growing vast here.
I do not mind newspapers being propaganda for their own opinions but they need to be open about that I mean look at CNN it is extremely shitty from every article and video that I have seen and they still want to be believed to be ''neutral'' and ''serious'' when they clearly are not.
Media need to be forced into serving the opinion of the people instead of themselves and is done by stop buying and listening to their bullshit so they need to return to proper journalism.
This is what baffles me, too.
You don't even need the media, you just need to read Trump's own Twitter timeline, and you can see his vision of what a president is is far closer to something out of North Korea than "the land of the free". He's doing things, and saying he should be allowed to do things, that he himself would have shit his pants over had Obama been doing them three years ago.
His timeline even goes back to 2012, so you can see the hypocrisy behind nearly every statement he makes. The media reporting on these is guilty of bias at MOST; it's not fake news, and it's not lying. It might have an agenda, but it could just as easily, and far more likely IMO, be trying to inform people of as much information as possible so they can make informed decisions.
Trump saying "people should accept the election results, protesting is bad" is well and good, but to report on him saying that and not the fact that in 2012 he essentially said "Obama won the electoral college and not the popular vote, the system is broken, we should all protest!" is closer to fake news than putting both tweets side by side.
In a way, the media's job is easier than ever before, when it comes to the White House. All they have to do is report what Trump does and says. They don't NEED to make anything up for hits and clicks. If they want to get as much information as possible, though, and inform voters, they've got a lot more work to do, because somehow in the middle of attacking the media for being fake news and claiming they are cherry picking stuff to report on, Trump doesn't seem to realise he's not exactly helping them to report both sides by refusing to speak fairly to them and avoiding them like the plague when it doesn't suit him.

I think it'd probably be more accurate to say that nazi's think he's a nazi, and they think he's pushing a nazi agenda. And I think they more than anyone else are the real indicator of how his message is coming across. Several neo-nazi websites have been commenting saying he's one of them and praising his content.
Dumb jokes still have consequences, sometimes you normalize hateful shit, and sometimes actual neo-nazis think youre pushing their worldview. If that wasn't your intent then you failed at your job.
Point is when you do something without regard for consequences it aint enough to just be like "trolling" or "lol jk" it wouldnt work if you'd said something in your workplace about stealing from the company or killing your boss, he's an online entertainer, maybe THE online entertainer, he should be smarter about this shit.
...You do realize that he's the one using incorrect facts, correct? When the media says something wrong based on their information, they (typically) correct it and apologize. When he makes up bullshit to trick the dumbest of Americans, they eat it right up and think he's god.
