What a bizarre story, besides PETA who would dump 1000 baby chicks in a fieldAbout 1,000 "vulnerable" day-old chicks have been abandoned in a field in Lincolnshire, sparking an RSPCA investigation.
Officers of the animal welfare charity were called after the chicks were left in a field near Crowland on Friday.
Insp Justin Stubbs of the RSPCA said: "I have never seen anything like it; it was just a sea of yellow. And the noise was unbelievable."
He said some birds were dead but most "did not appear to be suffering".
However, some of the birds had to be humanely put down.
'Unbelievable'
"For someone to dump these vulnerable chicks is unbelievable," Insp Stubbs said.
The chicks were thought to have come from a commercial producer nearby but could have been abandoned by someone else, said the RSPCA.
People in the area helped round up the birds into boxes and the breeder collected the survivors and took them back to its unit.
The RSPCA said the chick producer was co-operating with its investigation.
It is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

i read this thread title as 1000 day old chicks, and thought it was a typo and meant 10.000 days (or 27 year) old girl beeing dumped on a field. lol.

After raising farm birds for years, I have no sympathy for them.
Seems like a waste though. To go through the process of incubation just to dump them in a field.

Couldve been stupid animal libbers or they fell off a back of a crate. Maybe some local farmer went bust and just dumped them rather then let them sit in a cage and starve. Originally Posted by adam86shadow

u now what happens with male chickens the normal way in big animal farms? (hint: they get gassed and shredded for animal food, because male chicken give no eggs)
so variant a ) someone wanted to be greedy by not using gas , or more likely b) some stupid peta idots "set them free".
