"French police were searching the headquarters of Marine Le Pen’s far-right Front National west of Paris on Monday in relation to an investigation into the alleged misuse of European Union funds to pay parliamentary assistants, an FN official told Reuters.
The European parliament has said that, in her role as FN leader during the 2011-12 legislature, Le Pen paid party staff with EU funds, which EU rules say should be used only to pay EU lawmakers’ assistants."

I'd say going after Fillon was the stupidest idea they could've had.
He would've taken quite some votes from Le Pen, since their rhetoric is similar, but he is much less radical.
The less popular he is - the more consolidated is the protest vote that will go to Le Pen.

And before some uninformed righteous twat with more fanaticism then the Scarlet Crusade comes to attack me for saying this: I DESPISE Le Pen, but trying to shut her out of the electoral process will only help her not weaken her. People think this will hurt her as a scandal hurt Fillon. I would kindly remind people that Le Pen has been literally cast as a Nazi, an investigation into campaign finance is small potatoes.
I wouldn't hope too much on that. The idea that France would leave the EU is nonsense. Le Pen however will push to destroy the stranglehold Bruxelles has on EU countries.We can only hope.
I'm genuinely surprised that Le Pen COULD win but Fillon got screwed over by the scandal and that leaves Macron...a moron who decided that THIS was the best time to bring up France's colonial past as a war crime AND to wade into the Gay Marriage debate in France.
