My dog sleeps in his grave ;-;
Formerly known as Arafal
I'm going to bed but St. Bernards, Newfies and Great Danes are characteristically couch potatoes, they are far more house friendly than many smaller dog breeds. Also, don't get a dog breed if it does shit you can't handle (or a dog at all if you can't handle shit like dog hair and drool). Either way, that is no justification to leave a dog outside 24/7, especially in a state of neglect if the dog smells.
People need to start acting like adults and think through their decision to get a pet before they get one. Imagine a life where you're left outside neglected all day.
I don't really have anything further to add, you're basically defending shit behavior.

Sounds like you're a shitty owner. Don't own any more pets.
Wherever she feels like. Typically on the couch, on a cushion next to the sliding door or in my chair in the computer room.
She's welcome to sleep with us but hasn't done so since the last time it was freezing cold here, which was like two years ago.
Growing up, we all had dogs in the beds so it was no big deal. At my grandparents farm, they had a house goat that would hop into people's beds. Continuing with the tradition in my family with three dachshunds. Usually the kids will nab them since they go to bed first. Two like to sleep close to the feet, and likes to sleep near a person's shoulders.
The owls around here can get fairly loud, so sometimes the dog let out a half-hearted bark from under the covers.
Also had the neighbor's cat climb in through a window during the summer and jump into our bed. Animals can just sense animal-people.
Clearly by that individual's statements you can determine a lack of care by the fact that the dog smells and is not allowed inside the house with no mention of inclement weather exceptions. Why are you still defending this individual? Feel free to ask more questions to that person but your response is la-la land. If you're going to get uppity and defensive about something, have it be based in facts at least.
Also guard dogs are allowed inside homes, what that person's response tells me is that the dog wasn't properly trained and very likely wasn't neutered. You WANT your guard dog inside the house, they're not going to defend you from the backyard.
Just stop.
I don't have a dog but my boyfriend lets his sleep in the bed with us. I've grown used to it, but I think it's disgusting, unsanitary, and the damned thing is a space hog for such a small dog.
Dog sleeps upstairs on the couch or his dog bed, cats sleep where ever, on beds, couches, their cat tower, on people.
There are two chairs in my bedroom with flat pillows on them where my two cats sleep :3
They switch which chair they sleep on, and sometimes they'll both be on the same one. Each pillow has a towel around it for maximum hygiene.
Anyway, they sleep there usually when I'm sleeping. During the day, they have a preferred spot on the edge of the couch, or on the couch next to the window. I've noticed that if no one's home, they'll often sleep on the chairs that stay beneath the table.
I've noticed that if I decide to sleep in the afternoon, I can get one of the two to sleep on the bed with me ;D
Only in garage when thunderstorms or for a new year when everything goes bang. Rain is not a problem, since he can just hide under a roof of a tool shack close to him.
He works well at getting advertising people away.

He wasnt neutered.
Don't sweat the details!!!
I really don't know.
We have 3 cats at home (landside).
All 3 live outside since they aren't allowed inside.
Most probably they sleep on the 1st floor of the garrage/"woodshed" (It's actually a building as big as the house i live in and has a 1st floor where we stash ...stuff).
During winter they also sometimes sleep in our heating room (under the house)... they seem to especially like the heating-tubes and behing the oven, cause it' warm there.
If they don't manage to get into the heating room they sleep right infront of it in the open shooe-closet (They seem to feel safer when there isn't much air around also)
You sound like one of those folks who handles their pet like a princess because they are incapable of having kids or something.
Animals being afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks isn't unnatural at all.

Echoing what people are saying in this thread: My cat sleeps wherever the fuck she wants. Be that on your side of the bed, your pillow. Doesn't matter. She'll walk over your face to get there.
My dog doesn't have a problem with it, surely a trained guard dog can handle some thunder and fireworks????
Oh that's right, the dog wasn't properly trained and is left out in the yard 24/7 for that reason. Because he can defend his owners from the backyard. Better hope it's not raining or 4th of July during a break-in.
