I've never left unsafe in hotels......then again 99% of the time I'm traveling for a 3gun match and have a small arsenal beside the bed.
Me thinks Chromie has a whole lot of splaining to do!

Get a shotgun bed rack, nothing makes you feel safe like a big ass gun.

Motels tend to be sketchy, but that's the price you pay to pay less. They're not always bad, but I don't recommend extended stays.
The safety for your vehicle. For yourself. How clean are the washrooms? The beds? The carpets?

There is no good answer for any of these things. YMMV. Variables can include where you go, when you go, and what else is happening in the area at that time. For other factors, it is a matter of personal taste and tolerance.
With COVID-19 making its impact on our lives, I have decided that I shall hang in there for my remaining days, skip some meals, try to get children to experiment with making henna patterns on their skin, and plant some trees. You know -- live, fast, dye young, and leave a pretty copse. I feel like I may not have that quite right.

I'm not sure about motels in India... from what I hear it has some of the most impoverished areas in the world. It just depends on the area.

One thing take a portable blacklight with you and see how clean they are, because what you think is clean may not necessarily be the case..

Personally I prefer private room hostels to motels. Cheaper, more fun. But like anything, it depends on WHERE you're staying.

Actually you can get bed bugs anywhere.

They aren't dirt lovers, they are big time world travelers that hitch rides with people who don't take precautions.

Edit: They are also more prolific than rabbits at propagating.

In general bring your own blanket and pull off the comforter/duvet.

How to tell if somebody learned World Geography in school or from SNL:
"GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
SNL: Can't be Diomede Islands, say her backyard instead.

I never said they were dirt lovers.
They are travelers hence why I said motels are rife with them.
The best precaution is to avoid places that house travelers.

Is it really worth saving a few bucks and risking it?

Motels are safe, as long as there isn't a guy named Norman working there with mommy issues...

Chances are high the bed bugs will travel with you after a few motel nights.

They invade apartment complexes, townhouses, etc.

In that vein its best to move to the country, run a heater at 135 degrees in your cabin for a couple hours, and don't have any visitors.
