What is it that take sup memory on a computer?

(Question about storage, The thing used when downloading games or other stuff)
    Hey.

Sometimes the memory left on my computer is only 14GB, then the next restart it could be up at 21GB or 16gb or something. It keeps changing, and i'm wondering what it is that is taking up this temporary memory, and also why it's doing it or how to make it stop doing it, Because having low memory is scary

You should try "Up Dawg" to fix it.

The scary part here is: what could provide YOU with these almost seemingly relevant information? I think you need someone who can talk to you about this irl. I don't see any rational advice going anywhere. So go to someone who can tell you the story of your issue professionally.

Windows update tends to use lots of resources, be it CPU or memory. Could be it.

There's an actual "computer" forum on MMO-C somewhere.

it seems like you are trolling. dont troll IT guys. first of all, wtf is sup memory? secondly, do you mean the STORAGE space on your HardDisk is getting low?

press Ctrl + Shift + Esc > sort the programs in order mem/cpu/hdd or paste a couple of screenshots which is actually more usefull for proper online support...

Sounds like you're referring to RAM. And it sounds like your computer probably has 32GB of RAM, which is extremely excessive for every day users and even hardcore gamers, but whatever.

So assuming you have 32GB of RAM, if the most it ever uses is 21GB then that shouldn't cause any issues. However, 21GB is a fuck ton of RAM. I'm very curious as to what is consuming so much RAM. Even with three different web browsers each with a bazillion tabs, three different AAA games running, and several porn videos all running simultaneously you're going to have trouble breaking 10GB of RAM. So if you're not running a metric fuck ton of programs and it's hitting 21GB of RAM then I would suspect malware.

I would bring up your task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and try to find what is consuming a lot of RAM. If it's not an essential system process and it's consuming a lot of RAM (more than 500 MB) then you may have found something. If you see something that's taking up like 5GB of RAM or 5,000 MB, kill that shit immediately. No single process should be taking up that much, ever.

Stuff that usually consumes a large amount of RAM includes but is not limited to video games, web browsers with a lot of tabs open, integrated developer environments, and video editing software. You typically will not see any of these processes exceed 2GB of RAM though.

You should also consider running a scan with Windows Defender or whatever anti-malware you have.

Also, I would recommend checking out the startup tab. There may be a bunch of processes you don't want to start when you turn on your computer. Disabling some of these may help you with your issue.

Unless you're running into issues of RAM, I wouldn't be concerned with how it's used.

A very basic understanding of RAM is that it stores data for quicker access than having it stored on an HDD/SSD/etc. It being used is a good thing. The OS prioritizes what gets loaded into RAM. Just because.. lets say.. the OS is using 10GB of RAM at time X doesnt mean when you start gaming at time Y the OS will continue to use that 10GB.

To be clear, when you say "memory" do you mean the system memory aka RAM, or your storage capacity?

Then don't worry about it. At a guess, you have a variable size virtual memory cache that will expand and contract as needed.

Well. It's annoying that it keeps changing, and i'm wondering what causes it, Does Internet cookies or the amount of tabs open drain memory? it be really nice to know what it is that's causing the shift in memory left on the harddrive

Could look up how to turn it off I guess... which operating system are you using?

    Just a note to start.
What you use "when you download things" is called storage (you store things in it), which is your hard disc drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD), etc.
    Memory is your RAM.

If you are indeed asking about storage the reason it may be 14GB free now and 16GB after the reboot is most probably because of temporary files that were writen by Windows or any other software you have, this may be something the software may have needed at the time, or maybe update files that are deleted after the update is already done, whatever. Since you don't need them they get erased.
This happens more extremely if you indeed are that low on storage. The system will try to clean anything it can so that it doesn't get slow.
