Was esoteric art ever purchased using tax dollars? I'd argue that creators of esoteric art were SUPPORTED using Tax dollars. Just like the Automotive, Military, and Oil industries (plus others).

With the removal of support for Liberal Arts, America is just going to be dumb and slave-driven again.

I see Someone has been looking at the charts republicans put out instead of the actual chart.

All time low huh? Educate yourself Bro, 62%+ is a statistical anomaly caused by baby boomers, once they are all retired thing will return to the historical normal rate of 58-60%. No presidents, no congress can stop this from happening without forcing them all to work till they are 80 and kicking all kids over 16 out of school

Largely in part time jobs huh?

Here's a look at when the part time job growth really happened, hint..not in the past few years

Even better to look at the prime working age, oh look at that the number of part time jobs is almost back to normal.

But but Obamacare forced everyone to only hire part timers...oops

Much like the average person would have an additional $5000 or more over their lifetime if they actually picked up every penny, nickle, and dime that they dont bother to bend over and pick up when they see them on the ground.

Additionally, when they raise a tax or add a new one that adds a paltry amount to the coffers (soda tax, tobacco tax, etc...) people like you say its a great thing because it brings so much money in to fight X, yet its an exponentially smaller amount than any program cuts but hailed as a huge win.
Your analogy is missing something and not telling the whole story, of course

it would be like picking up every penny, nickle and dime...taking that 5000 walking down the block and throwing it at the military base

You still end up with nothing. Trump is cutting A to spend on B then throwing in some C.

Hell based on the budget, you would have to take another 250 dollars out of your pocket and throw it on top of the 5000 you just threw on the military base.

Some of the cuts don’t make sense.

Chemical Safety Board for example has done a lot of good. Although it does not have regulatory power, its work in investigating chemical spills to search for their causes and make recommendations to prevent recurrence has been invaluable. Not to mention their annual budget at 12M is a paltry sum.

Meals on Wheels which is funded through Community Development Block Grant? Seriously? We are that cheap that we can not take care of our senior? Not to mention this program allows seniors to stay in their own house. Now, we either have to put them in retirement homes or let them go hungry.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, which provides financial assistance for poor college students, is eliminated. Again, why?

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)?

    After school and summer programs?

The Corporation for National and Community Service, which includes programs like AmeriCorps, provides service and volunteering opportunities in supporting community needs. Seriously, AmeriCorps?

The list goes on and on.

Seriously, any reps that vote for this budget as it is now, can pretty much kiss his chances of winning in the next election good bye.

And so on and so forth. As much as republicans hate these programs, they are a blip in terms of spending and save basically nothing if gotten rid of. You have just been taught to fear them so they seem to be outsized monsters swallowing cash when they are anything but. You are chasing shadows.

The reality is the non-military discretionary spending part of the budget makes up ~16% of all spending. This is what Trump is targeting for all the cuts. He is targeting 16% for 100% of the cuts rather than sharing them equally out among all programs, which is what a sane person would do if they were aiming to cut government outlays.

In my opinion they should cut every penny of the discretionary funding and either refund it to taxpayers or invest in more bombs planes and ships

According to that chart, that would mean zero dollars for the military. Do you actually want that, or do you not mean "every penny" when you say "every penny"

FEMA should absolutely be dissolved. People should have insurance on their homes. Taxpayers shouldn't be paying to rebuild them. Personal responsibility

Dude its a huge advantage butnthese idiots really want to killnthat goose. The rest of the fucking world is still buying US bonds. The rest of the world is giving the united states REAL GOODS AND SERVICES IN EXCHANGE FOR FIAT and these jackholes are so fucking stupid they cant see it for what it is...

For the record the brics are trying to get away from this but its a difficultnthing to do for a couple reasons. For one oil is still priced in USD, for another the bric countries(in particular russia) are not necessarily all that stable. Ultimately investors still back the US because they lnow the government will do whatever it takes, including nasty shit to its own population in order to guarantee the security of capital. Capital runs the show in the US.

The Feds have been involved in education since at least 1867 and involved with virtually all levels since the 1950s.

The public education destroying event you're looking for would be the states trying to abolish public education because the feds told them to integrate their schools.

    keep docs -nope.
coverage better then ever - nope.
rates won't go up - nope.

my rates went up, while my coverage went down, and i have to find a new doctor (after i get health insurance, again).
I've got obamacare. I have the same doctor I've always had - in fact, every single plan listed had my doctor on it. If your doctor is not available, it's YOUR DOCTOR'S fault, not the program's. He/she can begin accepting those programs at any time.

My coverage is definitely "better than ever" in terms of the amount I pay - which is nothing. Which is crazy, but I'm not complaining.

I'll agree with two points made regarding this issue:

    1) I think that free plans are given out a bit too easily without enough verification that the person actually needs a completely free plan. While I didn't lie on my application (my income has dropped dramatically since I had a bad motorcycle accident and am still recovering) I very easily could have, and they didn't do anything to verify the things I said. I supplied no official documents or anything, just answered a questionnaire online, offered my e-signature, and got an insurance card in the mail less than a week later, followed by a phone call to explain my benefits. No monthly payment... I don't even have a COPAY at the doctor or pharmacy, and my coverage is pretty damn good. I've even got (limited) dental!
    2) I disagree with the fines for not being insured. Give people the opportunity to get healthcare that they couldn't normally afford, that's good enough, punishing people for not doing so is a bit too much. I understand the principle behind it and why they did it, and from a "technical" perspective it might even make sense, but from a "Americans have the right to make their own choices, even if they're fucking stupid choices" perspective it's a bit too much to impose fines on people that don't participate in the program or have health insurance through other means. I get that they want an incentive to prevent strain on the system and that individual imposed by crazy medical bills if they get hurt while uninsured, but unfortunately that's THEIR risk to take. If anything, remove the penalty entirely and just add a TINY tax credit to those that have health insurance. No penalty if you don't, but you miss out on the slight bonus that others get.

    That's all.
