Maybe its time to ban guns for soldiers too

I guess there are perks for being in Europe in regard to media report because here in Israel it would have been published as:
"unarmed civilian shot dead by police/army" which is correct if you leave out some details...

France has the military patrolling their civilian airports?

he probably expected the female to just realise how much more important he was because he's a man, bend the knee, kiss his shoes and hand over the gun.

What "major" terror attacks were these?
The only ones I am aware of this year have been a police shooting, letter bomb and some machete attack that resulted in exactly zero deaths. Those put the country on "high alert" and warranted the military patrols to be placed in airports?

Those who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Topic name is incorrect. You even mention in the first sentence of the quote that "he tried to" while your title suggest he succeeded.

The major attacks are Paris attacks 2015 and the Nice attack last summer. France (like many european countries) has a big problem with islamic terrorism.

Airports are soft targets that need to be guarded by heavily armed forces (be it police or army) in this ages of islamic terror.

How long has the military been patrolling civilian areas in France? Or even European countries in general?

I strongly agree with this statement, but I can't say that importing Tunisians is actually an "essential liberty".

We may differ on the matter though.

The military forces placed as security in these areas aren't infringing on any liberties that normal security wouldn't. We have armed guards at the train station for the same purpose and I've never actually seen them talking to any civilians.

Couldn't civilian the police force do the same thing?

It depends on the training that they give the police force, it may take longer to train and implement them with counter terrorist objectives and weapons in mind, than to recruit those in the military.

That is why European countries should have been proactive instead of reactive.

Sure, but they weren't, so it's kind of irrelevant here.

Hehe. Of course they are loaded. Kind of dumb to carry a firearm while on security guard duty unloaded.

Unloaded gun is no better than a club.

Not much you can really do about that but patrol in 2's. Lets face it armed guards are a placebo of safety anyway.
