Despite being a keeper, he's relatable and fun to be around. He likes a good fight and challenging his champions in order to make them more formidable warriors. It's a very oldschool style of character that you rarely see in games these days. Sure, he's flawed, made a few bad decisions, and is grey on the morality scale, but he's fun and lifelike, unlike the other keepers.

Also, having flaming beard is instant points in my book, it's pretty badass.

In short, I don't like characters that are boring, Oydn isn't boring or boring to be around. His house is essentially a celestial armory, sparring pit, and feasting hall... it's awesome.
My problem is mostly that all the bad crap he's done is kinda ignored. We know he's a dick, but its always sorta hand waved to the side.

    Odyn is an arrogant cunt.

If it wasn't for previous knowledge of Norse mythology I'd have no clue wtf was going on in that zone. The writing was atrocious. Was as if I'd missed an important piece of information that never presented itself.

Well I mean, its just shoddy writing. A lot of the stuff surrounding Odyn makes no sense or is full of retcons. At this point its hard to tell if he even did the shitty stuff he did in the past since more and more seems to change any time he's included in anything. The whole point of Chronicles for instance was to establish the lore, but then here comes Odyn to crash into it and render stuff involving him null. Now we even have none-Vrykul venerating him in 7.2, and in 7.1.5 the class hall quest where you have a survivor from broken shore seems to be trying to imply he had his hand at the initial horde and alliance invasion of the Broken Shore. I expect us to get to 7.3 with him leading all the keepers, none of them mentioning his betrayal, and the souls of Doomhammer and Lothar bowing before his obvious superiority as t hey gush about how he was always an inspiration to them.

I main Warrior, so a big obvious NO. I cringed so hard at the 7.2 trailer when you had every class represented except warrior in what should've been a cool moment cause more-pala-than-warr Odyn felt like once again being a douche ;P

I don't like him, he looks like an action figure for kids, their whole interpretation of Norse mythology is just shit. It just didn't hit home with me

This is nothing new to WoW lore, as well as much of the on-going fantasy for many things... Yet, you subscribe this instance of it to Oydn... Shouldn't Blizzard, and most of their writing be the issue by that point? To me, most of this make sense. I think you're just being to analytical about it.

Well I mean, yes blizz is known for retcons. But Odyn seems especcially shrouded in this sort of lazy writing. At least other characters arent introduced then immediately information is taken back.

Did you even lvl through stormheim, or must I bring up the whole Val'kyr, sylvanas BS?

Litterally the Horde side of the Hellheim story: Sylvanas: We're the Hordes only hopes, champion.

Champion: Can I leave with her, cause I kind of have a mission to do...

Helya: UNWORTHY! KNEEL BEFORE YOUR NEW ENSLAVER! MY PET SHALL RIP YOU APART! AHAHAHAHA

    Champions: ...

    *Kills Helya's pet*

    Helya: AHHHHHH!!!!! I'LL KILL YOU...

CHampion: ....God I just wanna kill her...

    Other than the Naaru....

Hell, even THEY can become corrupted bitches...

    Remember M'uru? Or K'ara?

I'm talking about the chronicles book when Helya was a figure similar to Aeir. Helya is filled with vengeance in Legion and for right reason: if you figure out that your babbling lunatic man-child boss is trying to go against what he was ordered because he was jealous of the dragon aspects receiving the blessing of titan keepers and get killed and bound to a hellish nightmare that is Helarjar because you spoke out against your boss you'd turn into a creature filled with hate too.

Odyn has no real ability to see the endgame of all things, all he cares about is watching a conflict and praising mortals who fight and die valiantly in it. he straight up cheers for alliance vs. horde conflict and rewards players for it instead of seeing how these conflicts divide the resistance against the legion. because he wants to fill his halls with "worthy" champions, were it not for our intervention he would've given the Aegis of Aggramar to Skovald instead. Skovald, who was clearly the pawn of the burning legion (the very legion that Odyn was supposed to protect us from) is allowed to freely walk in the halls of valor and even speak with Odyn. even after all the insults and disrespects he showed towards the Valarjar traditions and the trials, he was about to walk out with the Aegis of Aggramar with no real opposition from Odyn.

Helya was out there to get her vengeance, plain and simple. and we helped Odyn kill her and get him out of the hell he made for himself because "reasons".

All the valarjar stuff doesn't feel related to wars at all. Years playing war with nothing at all related to vrykuls, odyn, valhalla and stuff, to suddenly going sent there at the beginning of the expansion because, why not? All this stuff should have been kept to Vrykuls only, wars should have gotten a real war place and story. As to Odyn, yes the has done a lot of terrible things, but I don't care really, it's not like I love him or dislike him, I simply don't care.

Also I was expecting more of Valhalla and other dungeons/raids related places before legion launched, it's pretty disappointing. Vortex Pinnacle and Throne of Winds did a much better job at a "city in the sky" feel, also being way more beautiful(I know, my opinion).

I don't think anyone thought about Odyn and Valhalla before Legion launched when they thought about warriors really.

Odyn was there. He was in his vrykul form.

On topic, I hate the guy too. Not even in a 'love-to-hate-him' kinda way, like a lot of villains in stories. I just hate him. He's done all of these shitty things, and Blizzard just kinda hand waves it away, pushing onto us that "Odyn is good guy, very good guy. Like him. Helya is 100% evil and deserves literally everything that ever happened to her." Still makes me so mad we killed her - Odyn straight up manipulates us. Only him and Helya know about his betrayal to her, but he never mentions it so our player characters are lead to believe she is 100% evil.

Oh, I get that. However, the player knows nothing of that. All we did was try to tell helya to get us out of there, and then she tried to enslave us to her pet straight after. Must I mention the warrior Artifact questline?

Lore-wise: The Player is just trying to beat the Legion, He/She has NO time for story. And if there's someone wanting to stop him/her, he/she will defeat that threat, cause it's a threat to the hero....

Game-wise: We did it...but after a couple of wipes...

    - - - Updated - - -

Also, doesn't Legion feel like a bunch of things to ya right now?

The Guardians give me a Fairy Tail feel to it...

Kil'jaeden/Sargeras' BS gives me a Megatron/Unicron vibe, and must I mention the Whole Velen/Optimus relation?

Anduin's Hair-style, and dread sense of hope reminds me of Ed from Full metal, make Varian his metal dad (Similar as to how Al was Ed's metal brother, cause of the alchemy taking Al's body), and add the fact that Varian lost his body from the FEL (Ehhhhhhh?), and we're good.

The Lich king's BS, as well as the Warlocks BS reminds me of Soul Eater

Monks remind of Naruto, no doubt...

And The DHs ability (Spirit Bomb) gives ALOT of Dragonball Z feels....

    So, what we've learned here.

    WOW References alot of shit....

Oh, and Helya is a Feminazi, and Odyn is that dick who drank too much....

Must I say what the Old Gods are? I mean, we've already seen enough Tentacle Porn in Cata already....

That's the thing though, Odyn doesn't represent warriors, he represents himself and his valarjar (which includes 1 mortal warrior). What the rest of warriorkind has been up to all expac who knows, prolly fighting over warden towers I suppose.

    Odyn in HoV:

So you pass the trial and defeat the 4 kings, he acknowledges your strength and gives you the Aegis, Skolvar steals it from you, you kill Skolvar and take it back, and then Odyn changes his mind and chooses to fight you before you retake the Aegis he had already given you?

    Very scummy dude.

    In ToV:

Forgetting all the trials he's given you in the series of quests leading up to the Aegis where he literally pretends to be some other guy to trick you into helping him. In ToV he's still not convinced of your strength and this time goes all out on you to test it, bringing out all of his top men to fight you at once and then comes out at the end and chicken shits out once you take him to low HP. All this so he can use your strength to kill his imprisoner...

He's a greedy, egotistical manipulative cuntbag. If I had a choice between siding with Helya or Odyn, I'd go Helya all day. At least she doesn't try to hide her cuntiness or send you on 1000000 suicide missions to test your resolve and strength.

I like him for being an ass, and ''I'm right and you're wrong'', you can like a character for various reasons, you don't have to like them because they lick your ass or are perfect in everyway (aka Anduin-like characters). Actually now that I think about it, most of the characters that I like are usually major a-holes.

I love Norse stuff so I'm biased, but I like Odyn.

If it was up to me, I would have joined Helya against Odyn. He is arrogant, annoying, total douche and a hypocrite. Helya is a victim here, not this coc(k/e) sniffer.
    Also, tentacle monsters are kinky!

I don't like Odyn. I don't like how his and Helya's story was handled. Sure, Helya was kind of a not "good "gal herself, I mean she does take her vengeance on... pretty much anyone around... but her backstory gives her a clear reason to hate Odyn. Has Odyn ever expressed regret or remorse for his actions, or considered that maybe his and Helya's relationship hadn't gone sour if he hadn't, I don't know, not killed her and forced her under his will?

I would've loved to see their story be played our as a gray morality vs gray morality, and we align ourselves with him because his interests are more aligned with ours, but instead there is this weird character shilling going on with Odyn and I just... ughh. I don't find it particularly good writing. I like Havi and all, I think Odyn could be a good, charismatic character if he would be toned down a notch and not shilled so much, but knowing the full backstory between Odyn and Helya, and how it's being handled by the writing team...

    /shudder
