    7.2 flat damage increase (estimated)

    Hi priests,

I did a little napkin math from my heroic guldan kill yesterday. I tried to calculate my damage after 7.2 hit and I get the new traits I can afford. From what I see in my specific case I would do 4% more damage with the following traits picked in my artifact:

Darkening Whispers - 5% flat increase that I have now as 35th trait
Darkness of the conclave - 10% flat increase that would send me to 15% total compared to 14,5% now @ 54 traits
Touch of Darkness - 5% increase to Vampiric Touch
To the pain - 6% increase to Shadow word: Pain
Mind Shattering - 5% increase to Mind Blast. I have the belt.

All in all I got these new traits to add up to aprroximately a 4% increase in overall damage on my specific log. I am decently Crit heavy in my build so I am running AS (as a test) instead of Sanlayn. I expect the increase to be even higher for a mastery heavy build.

Has anyone tried this exercise to see what we can expect and is this method applicable?

This may be a decent exercise to run in a vacuum but don't forget the data is going to be confounded even further by raid composition again, since a lot of classes are getting buffs that affect other people. You'll likely end up doing a lot more damage than you expect come release I think.

Isnt there also a Talent which gives insanity from the void tendrils? If this adds 2-3sec to our voidform, it will also increase our damage noticable.

Yeah but you won't be getting that for a while yet, it's trait #45 on the recommended list. (137 million AP) I think OP was asking for what are things going to look like week 1.

    Assuming 54 traits currently

Your damage is roughly 3.65% stronger

0.5% from Darkness of conclave (9.5% darkening whispers replaced by 10% Darkness of conclave)
1.25% from 4/4 Touch of Darkness
    1.03% from To the Pain
    0.86% from Creeping Shadows
+2 Sfiend talents which i cbf calculating, but they lead to the stronger talent which buffs allies.

Arguably (because you will be able to grind a new trait on day 1, AK26 for free) it may be worth going straight for the haste buff for allies. its more valuable than our VT/SWP/1% damage traits.

*Not really arguably, Mind quickening is without question a better choice for raid DPS.

    Highly unpredictable insanity generation. Meh..

What I'm more interested in is whether it's better to rush for the new gold trait (and 4 person haste buff) than pick up the strong 4/4 traits asap... I guess not for the first week-ish? it just depends 'when' you want to be strong

I checked another kill. Krosus HC from start March. Don't have Krosus mythic yet unfortunately

    https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...pe=damage-done

Here Is how I get my 4,2% increase:

    Damage Split in my log:
Vampiric Touch - 30.440.000 (1,20 multiplier - One relic equipped)
    Void Bolt - 28.200.000 1,00 Multiplier
    Shadow Word: Pain - 22.300.000 (1,18 Multiplier)
    Mind Blast - 16.1650.000 (1,15 Multiplier)
    Rest - 35.700.000

I was at 51 traits at this time so a 13% increase in damage.

Now to calculate the new damage after chosen talents:
    Vampiric Touch: 30.440.000/1,13/1,20*1,15*1,25 = 32.270.000 or a 6% increase
    Void Bolt: 28.200.000/1,13*1,15 = 28.700.000 or a 1,8% increase
    Shadow Word: Pain: 22.300.000/1,13/1,18*1,15*1,24 = 23.850.000 or a 6,9% Increase
    Mind Blast: 16.650.000/1,13/1,15*1,15*1,20 = 17.680.000 or a 6.2% Increase
    Rest: 35.700.000/1,13*1,15 = 36.330.000 or a 1,8% Increase

This all adds up to 4,16% if I am not mistaking how the math in WoW works.

It puzzles me that "Rest" increase by 1,8% and not 1,5% as u would expect. May just be coz its early in the morning still

EDIT: It seems I am mistaking the math as it is additive and not multiplicative ?
