Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

This forum is definitely a random sample of the population and therefore open polls are completely representative.

I am a Chemical Engineer who works in oil and gas. I mostly work in Drilling and Completions and Subsea.

And for the record, I work much more than 40 hours a week. Onshore it's at least 50 hours a week, offshore it's at least 84 hours but it can creep higher like a few extra hours - any higher and you become a huge H&S risk.

    Just sayin.

Now i know there are international ppl voting in the poll, but its still telling.
So many, many issues with this statement.

One, this not even close to a good substitute for state or national level information which looks at and draws from significantly larger numbers.

Two, You aren't even considering the fact you might have people from several different nations contributing to this data.

retail, and they tell me I'm full time. even though by the definition proposed here, it's only like that for about 1/3 of the year. the rest is usually under 20hrs/week. side note, I know how to cook really well, because I'm a cheap bastard.

My hours are erratic. I work 32 this week, 40 two weeks ago, only 24 two weeks from now. Over 40 some weeks during the holidays. My bills aren't high enough that I worry about money though. Feel I've bitched about my job before, don't need to explain it.

Also, this is a light-hearted thread, let's not get political here.

30-40 is a very slow week, bathing in free time.
My personal record stands at 111 hours in one week.

My first guess is some kind of nurse/doctor and my second is an engineer or technician - am I close? :P

40hrs, though unofficial "on call" can rack up a few hours a month too. IT technician.

Oddly enough they call 32 hours fulltime here, but the system says it's 80% parttime (as 40 is fulltime). I wish I could work less, but then I wouldn't be able to pay the bills

In Norway, a full week is 37,5 hours. I've had like 80-90 hour week once or twice a year, but that's unhealthy and discouraged or even forbidden by employers.
