Ashes of Creation - Upcoming sandbox mmo

If you've been looking for a quality sandbox mmo I think you should check out this one. It's still early in development, but it has a lot of potential. I could go on and on about all the features, or you could go to the site and read up.

https://www.ashesofcreation.com/ref/Drokk/ is my reference link. If you want to use it and make an account, I'd appreciate it. But if not, that's cool. I do suggest making an account as it automatically enters you into weekly drawings for alpha and beta keys (alternating between random drawings, and hand-picked based on participation in forums, discord, referrals). Alpha is planned for late 2017 at the moment. Should be a kickstarter in the not too distant future as well.

You can watch some videos on their youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfb...mIJ55TJvZumNZw

Discord at https://discord.gg/VNcEX Hop on and join in the chat. It's quite active. The creative director Steven Sharif is often on talking and answering questions. There's a section with already-answered questions.

I hope you at least give the game some consideration. It's got a lot going for it.

I don't think it's a sandbox. Some kind of dynamic evolving world themepark thingy instead. But the game and the concept looks great, even at this early stage - compared to the other alphas we've seen past couple of years.

What's PvP going to be like? In this Sandbox games they always seem to lean heavily on PvP, which immediatly makes me lose interest.

Yup, so many sandbox MMOs that turn out to be free-for-all gankfests without any content.
When we looked at the relics of the precursors, we saw the height civilization can attain.
When we looked at their ruins, we marked the danger of that height.

Pvp is opt-in. Don't want to PvP? You don't have to. The only time you are "involuntarily" flagged is when you are escorting/leading a caravan, in which case you are PvP flagged and people can attack you to get at the caravan.

I have been watching this game since December I think it was. The changing seasons, "consensual" pvp, sandbox-esque gameplay, etc have really got me excited about the game. The fact that you can affect the world around you (over-farm the land and it becomes a desert) is something awesome.

It will be subscription-based, which will probably turn a lot of people off. I have hope for this game, and hope for good things for the developers of the game.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Words are just words. What I really like is the dynamic nature of the game, and how players can actually affect how the world grows and evolves (through nodes). I look at it as 'sandbox' in that you can pretty much do what you want and play how you want. There's also themepark elements as well. It seems like a healthy mix of the two.

I'd like to add to that that if you kill a non-combatant player, you gain corruption. Corruption can have a lot of downsides. You lose much more when you die, you can be seen and hunted by anyone. You basically have a giant target on your back. So if you're afraid that players will just be going around murdering everyone with no retribution...I don't think that's a huge concern. Which is good for me since pvp is not a huge focus of mine. However, the concept of giant city sieges sound fantastic. I'll definitely get in on that.

Sounds just about right, optional PvP is totally fine, as long as people can't just turn up and ruin my shit that I've spent all this time building because they feel like being a dick.
