As far as if it's more common in the USA, I'd say maybe. I'm not really sure though. I haven't had a nice cut of steak in another country.
some day maybe.. i guess it mostly applies to beef right? around here it's mostly pork and poultry that's on the menu and as far as i know that wouldn't be too healthy
I had fun once, it was terrible.

Yeah under cooked pork and poultry is a bad idea. You could get really sick from that. Beef, on the other hand, I've never heard of anyone I know getting sick from that, but I suppose it's still possible.

It's a pretty terrible disease, but it's also quite rare. I'd be more concerned about E-Coli.

Health wise, anything below medium is not hot enough to kill possible bacteria. And mate, it's up to individuals. There is no "perfect" steak. I personally hate rare stakes with a passion. I won't eat anything below medium rare.

That's what I read on a health report and it wasn't talking about hamburger. It was talking about steak. I agree tho, even if there was some sort of infection, it wouldn't be something major.

    Beef Brisket:

Look at that smoke ring! Smoke = flavor baby, oh yeah...
I sat alone in the dark one night, tuning in by remote.
I found a preacher who spoke of the light, but there was Brimstone in his throat.
He'd show me the way, according to him, in return for my personal check.
I flipped my channel back to CNN and lit another cigarette.

If I recall, there is a body of research pointing to our increasingly sterile environment leading to diminished immune systems.

I'll grant, one is Wikipedia and the other has an alternative medicine mention, but the general idea seems to go along with concerns about over use of antibiotics and antimicrobial soap.

With COVID-19 making its impact on our lives, I have decided that I shall hang in there for my remaining days, skip some meals, try to get children to experiment with making henna patterns on their skin, and plant some trees. You know -- live, fast, dye young, and leave a pretty copse. I feel like I may not have that quite right.

What's a smoke ring. Why is it white in the middle? Isn't that the opposite of medium rare?

Fairy bread. Australian delicacy. It's also a nice way of bring the sugar quotient of Australian bread up to that of American bread.

    Umm yeah obviously.

Your immune system builds up as your body (successfully) fights off infection. Emphasis on "successfully". That means you are not supposed to purposefully get yourself sick on ill-prepared food, because a lot of infections from ill-prepared food generally cause serious and life-threatening illnesses.

As long as you don't live in a perfectly sterile environment with perfectly sterile food, water and air, you will come across enough microbes to shore up your immune system against a wide-enough range of infections.

I live in a country where even "trash food" holds pretty damned high quality thanks to regulations and laws put in place. I don't doubt for a second that fast-food burgers in the US contains sawdust though.

Agreed. I've never had a well done steak that was chewy and tough to eat. Perhaps it comes down to the chef being able to handle meat beyond the rare stage?

This is what one looks like here. Note the dry sawdust like burger, and the plastic cheese.
