Syria is sorrounded by nations pitching in and giving refugees safety, instead of taking them to Sweden we can send aid for much better efficiency.

Poland claims it has accepted a million refugees from Ukraine but there doen't seem to be a huge problem there.

20k in 6 months got them to pull the brakes and limit it. We're receiving more today. After the social democrats congress we're gonna open it up even more due the party tops line losing. The social democrats have lost their pragmatism and instead they let emotions rule.

The sad thing is people are up in arms against Syria's refugees, when it is not a Syrian that did this and the Syrians are real refugees by the united nation definition.

whether people like it or not, those refugee have a worldwide protected status and they can settle in any safe country they choose.

France took over 150 000 boat people some 50+ years ago, they are now helpful citizens of France and their children are high achievers.

The other sad thing is how this thread quickly descended into what is and is not a swede, Trump guys celebrating (reminds me of idiots celebrating the 11th september disaster) and people falling into the populist trap.

2017, I hope the EU becomes stronger and more unified.

ps: I have been to Sweden, those people are just great and amazing. Felt very sad this happened and somewhat "glad" (brakets) it is not an arab that did this but an Ouzbek that have been denied papers. A bitter idiot.

Laws can be changed or in the case of refugees be ignored without repercussions.

Haha, what? By EU regulations, you lose the refugee status the moment you flee into safety.

Afaik there are no direct routes from Syria to Sweden that doesn't put them into another nations jurisdiction.

    Stockholm suspect 'admits truck attack'

Rakhmat Akilov, 39 and from Uzbekistan, admitted carrying out the attack in court and was remanded in custody.

Wearing green overalls, he was brought into the court in handcuffs.

Four people were killed when a lorry was driven into a department store on Friday. A number of people were also injured, two critically.

"His position is that he admits to a terrorist crime and accepts therefore that he will be detained," said lawyer Johan Eriksson.

A second man is no longer being held as a suspect, according to prosecution authorities, but he will not be released because he already had a deportation order standing against him.

Mods here would ban you for "insensitive photo" if it was that dead girl, but that dead boy who died "due to evil Europeans who don't want to take in more" was absolutely fine and was posted several times.

    Which was a lie.
See, we didn't have much immigration then, because to get to Sweden, one had to pass several national borders.
As soon as that changed, we started restricting things -

    So the point is what?

Because someone gave permission to post a picture you think it is right to post a picture of someone else without permission of next of kin because otherwise the lack of permission can be used to show some bias that probably never existed?

You need really old plants for something to really happen (Chernobyl) and even then the result was at worst what happens due to coal each 29th hour.
The amounts of deaths from nuclear is so over-hyped its stupid.

Deaths from radiation in Fukushima = 0. Deaths calculated due to release of radiation in fukushima sub 100.
Deaths from coal each 29th hour due to polution, mining etc over 3000 ppl

The biggest problem with a terror attack towards a nuclear plant would be the 100 of thousands of ppl loosing out on power. Do that during a harsh winter and THAT could lead to deaths due to ppl freezing to death.

nah the whole terrorism thingy is so bloated its just stupid. IF we change the way we live due to a few ppl doing stupid things in the name of some stupid thing then they win and we loose.
As a swedish politician said after the attack when he answered the question "will you take any precautions to get away from terrorists after this?".
    Answer was simply: No.
Cause doing what you always have done is the answer to ppl trying to change the way you do things with violence.

    (this is from a swede)
Yea! This is what I have been saying. 4 ppl died from due to a madman running a truck... I couldnt care less... its like a really bad accident due to a mentaly unstable person doing something stupid.
I just cant see the "terror" in it. Sure if a person managed to kill say 30-40 ppl then I might be able to call it terror. But this? Gathing thousands of ppl just cause 4 ppl died due to a retard wanted to create a statement? nah, Im not even scared a little.
If ANY laws or some stupid shit get changed cause of this then this whole debacle is just a big fail.
BEST thing to do is just to keep going as you have always done.
Sure, pay respect for the dead but hell...

Changing what does not seem to work might be wise

There is no good reason to have supposedly thousands of people who have been denied a right to live in your country sticking around if you can avoid it

Improving procedures to ensure that people, once the application and appeals are denied, are send home or elsewhere seems prudent.

    Not really.

Look at japan and south korea. What repercussions are they facing? International law is nothing but a platitude in this case. It's selectively enforced. How would it even be enforced in the case of japan and south korea?

You can't obviously. One can only hope that no of us is ever in a situation where they need to flee what those people are fleeing.

If we were in 1942, would you let in refugee from Finland or the Baltic states? Why? Why not?

So why link to an article which refers to international law? Countries can freely ignore it without repercussions. So, why should we take people?

Yes, because finns are a lot like swedes culturally. Hell, we are responsible for a lot of the things in finnish culture due to the Swedish empire and modern influences.

Difference with the finns is also that like over 90% of them went back unlike mena people. Most of them were also kids that the finns sent here for safety. Unlike the mena people who are mostly adult men, then large amounts of men posing as kids.
