Here's what's gonna happen: The people who are now being paid to go to college, would have for the most part gone anyway, while paying for it themselves. Not only will people work less to pay for college because the state's gonna pay the bill, the taxpayer will be asked to step up, resulting in less money in the private sector and more in the hands of a bloated, liberal government. And here's the kicker: The NY tax payer pays for it and then the people graduating leave New York to pursue a career in another state.

It's like they're trying to hurt the people of New York on purpose, in the name of possibly helping some lazy slobs who're gonna drop out anyway. Typical Democratic move.

Or maybe those same people will stay in NY because they know they now don't have to save for 30 years to pay for their kid to go to college. i see it as a partial incentive to stay in the state.

Besides im talking more about the prevailing attitude here on mmoc that somehow every poor person is virtuous and every rich person is immoral, that every rich person acquired their wealth by exploitation, and equality of outcome is more important than equality of opportunity.

Basic economic theory....people act in their own self interest in the immediate over the long term typically. A 24 year old college grad will be more than willing to move to another state with lower taxes.

And yet even with the high taxes NY has not lost population, they have actually gained almost 2% in the last 6 years. There are a lot of states with huge tax differences and yet you don't see this mass migration even after tax increase after tax increase after tax increase.
