Besides, here is a stupid question. The USA, despite massive firepower and manpower, never managed to control completely the South countryside. How they would have controlled the much more populated North, with even more hostile terrain ?

I'll turn it around on you @GennGreymane , can we afford to wait? They already have working nukes, they just can't deploy them over longer ranges yet. I don't want to give them even more time to develop long range missiles with nuke capability, as it's clear they're trying to do so.
It's already too late. They should have been invaded right after they set off their first nuke. You can't let a child play with matches like that.
Nope, Koreans aren't like that. We're kind of pacifistic by nature, unless we are pushed to the point of anger or just fucking insane. There won't be a Korean ISIS or insurgency that materializes to fill the power vacuum.
I'd worry more about Russia and China. They won't take it very kindly with us knocking at their back door. Don't go into the DPRK unlesk you have the support of both of them and the ROK.
