You get to see everything and even explore a bit more with flying. It changes your outlook and perspective.
Before flying...this was my behaviour:
(1) fly to FP...mount run to WQ...(FD if trash came with me)..do WQ...use whistle...go from FP to FP (meanwhile afk) ..come back do WQ...use whistle..wait on CD...HEARTH...FP to FP do WQ...WHISTLE....fp to fp ...wq, dalaran stone...fp to fp, wq, whistle, fp to fp...wq
^I saw lots of the world doing this.
The only reason legion has even been tolerable was because of that whistle.
The game is 100% better now...
I just wish Blizzard would figure out what they want to do with flying mounts. Is this going to be the new way of unlocking flying? Or are we going to go back to the simple "get to max level and buy license" way? It's like they don't know what to do or how to handle it. It's handled differently almost every expansion. Just like classes and their constant annoying changes they do to them forcing you to relearn the same class you've been playing for years after being so comfortable with your rotation and spells. Like with the flying mounts it's like they don't know what they want out of them. Like an 8 year old who can't make up it's mind in a toy store.
Honestly I don't care if we are able to fly or not. I felt that the flight paths were enough and about just as fast as a flying mount and if worked on a little more they could be even better. So if they decide to outright get rid of flying, fine I'm ok with it but if they're going to keep it then for fucks sake make up your damn mind on how you want to handle flying.

Theoretically I'm onboard with the argument that flying interferes with design and trivializes content.
But I no longer have faith in the current dev team to design good content in the first place.
If all they're going to make is purposefully tedious garbage, then I don't mind flying over it and bypassing that crap. It's just a shame you can't bypass the rest of the time-gating, casino gameplay, and other garbage.
Im still miles off getting flying That army rep takes forever (just reached honor today)
The game is much better now and I am of the point of view that it should have occurred sooner and with quicker gating.
This is what kills me about the no flying crowd. If they don't want to fly and want to run from point to point, no one is stopping them. In addition, I don't get the immersion thing either as flight points fly you over everything anyway, at which point you then mount up and frustratingly try and get to a point for a quest, rinse and repeat.
jezz, no more focking daze or endless combat because i moved close to some random meaningless mob. Amen.
This so much. Had flying been in at max level... or with some "earning" but still at launch.... I would not have unsubbed for 6 months. I would have stayed in game because I do not enjoy being stuck on the ground. I would have leveled alts.
Blizz says "see all the content before you fly"... I will unlock it in the next couple days... I HAVE seen everything... AND I took a 6 month break. So what does that tell you about the "content"? And which is better... me staying in game consistently and not dropping sub or me coming back now and having no feeling of continuity, no care to join a guild, no desire to raid anything but LFR?
For both me and Blizzard... having flight at max level and staying in game would have been a much better result.
Yeah. The "immersion" argument against flying is pure BS because it operates on the premise that immersion is a good thing. It completely fails logically because immersion is can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the context.
Immersion is great when you have new content to explore. But once you're familiar with the content, immersion becomes tedious. The immersive experience of discovering the Broken Isles and exploring the different areas, uncovering it's secrets etc was really fun. But repeating that experience loses the appeal the more you do it. I don't want to waste my time on alts wondering what is on the other side of that rocky outcrop. I already know what's there - I just want to get there quickly so that I can do what I need to do and move on to my next objective.
This is why those who are staunch anti-flyers annoy me. They fail to consider the dynamic aspect of the game and how it is that what may be fun one day can become not so much the next.

No it doesn't work well for botting as well. That's a very obvious and blatant example of false equivalence fallacy.
