Just because it says its a public university, doesn't mean you can't be arrested for trespassing. You know, like going to a public school, if you aren't wanted there, they can arrest you for trespassing. Seems a lot of right wingers don't understand this.

I'm really not sure what's so hard to grasp about this. I mean, I'm not a fan of free speech zones, but they do exist, like it or not, students and staff certainly do not have the right to just go to any location on campus and start spouting whatever drivel comes out of their mouths, neither do comedians, talk-show hosts or politicians. To be completely fair, Coulter could actually walk on to the campus and stand in the "free speech zone" and pretty much say whatever she wants. But she wants a stage, with an audience, and lighting and sound and tickets. And in those locations the university can arrest anyone, even students, for essentially causing a disturbance.

"Public" property doesn't mean you own it. Courts are public property and they limit who and when you can enter them. Jails are public property and entry is limited. All "public" means in Universities is that they are partially government funded, so the government gets extra say over how they operate.

I haven't followed her in years, but she brought up some valid points. Particularly, she explained how the college put additional, onerous requirements and hurdles for her to speak that are not required of left-leaning speakers, and that that is somewhat like letting a black person vote if they can count the number of jelly beans in a jar or name previous presidents.

The hurdles for Ann were supposedly for safety and precaution, just as the hurdles for black people were supposedly to ensure literacy and fitness to vote. It was a thought-provoking point. All in all, I was kind of impressed with Ann.
