Hamon just said he is going to support Macron in the second round.
50%+1 on the first turn is a win, but it hasn't happened in a long time (ever, actually, I think). Few people in France vote strategically during the first turn; that is saved for the 2nd.
And as I suspected, Macron vs Le Pen during the second round. Unless Le Pen performs way, way above expectations, I suspect Macron is the next President, even if the vote will probably be much closer than Chirac vs Le Pen's father where the latter got crushed.
And before anyone gets started, no, this isn't a Trump situation, because France doesn't have a stupid electoral system and every voice counts as one there. Macron beat Le Pen on the first round, and she's not a popular second choice at all.
And now, the political forces get ready to crush the far right.
as expected.
Second round will probably be around 70% vs 30% for Macron as president.
Everything that can scream, write or bark will go in the streets to support Macron : the socialists, the communists, the republicans, the Jews, the Grand Orient de France (Free-Masons), etc. Melanchon probably wont support anyone. Macron will most probably become the President.
What will be interesting is the legislative elections. Macron has no party. What kind of National Assembly will he get? How many deputies will be from Front National? Who will he have to choose as Prime Minister? What government will he have to cohabit with? Left, right? How will he enforce his program on the government?
Oh, and at 6%, the Socialist Party is on the brink of extinction.

I think the most important outcome of this election is that the major political parties of Frances got effectively wiped out.
The Left got single digits. The mainstream right could have won but their corruption finally got the better of them.
