Anyway, incoming useless NPC added "in his honor" that nobody will actually care about or remember a month from now.

Blizzard generally does it as a show of respect rather than recognition which is why most, if not all, easter egg NPCs are found in niche locations rather than stuffed in your face. If they were to add him in to the game, which I am sure they will, it'll likely be as an NPC in The Athenaeum as a counterpart to Lorekeeper Lydros or somewhere else steeped in accumulated lore.

But really, I'm just trying to point out that him being turned in to an NPC is entirely possible without even signing patitions and whatnot since Blizzard actively draws from the community whether it's characters or items.

It's not something which should be surprising.
