Hey Twitch streamers where is my cut?

Everyone loves Twitch, I get it I get it, but there is a rather disturbing underbelly of revenue being forgotten or perhaps not seen.

Now the big games are all multiplayer of course, League, Overwatch, WoW and the like, games that need other players so they can actually exist. And that boys and girls is my point.

If these streamers did not have me to play against, they wouldn't be able to make any kind of money now wouldn't they?

Is there anything in any game TOS that I give up my right to play privately or am I forced to be on someone's Twitch stream as they make money off my game avatar? If they are making money, be it from donations or ad revenue, where is my cut? The games mentioned before require me for them to be actual games for the most part, am I supposed to give up my rights to gaming privacy for others to benefit financially?

    Riddle me this...

If your child was in a school play and another parent filmed it and sold it for a substantial profit without giving you anything even though your child was in the play, would you not want a share?

I'm just a simple man, but if someone is making money off me, you better show me something something.

You seem rather buttmad at other people making a living. As kids we all said wed love to make a living playing games and there are alot that do. They put in time, dedication and in some places alot of skill. Your not getting any money.

Lots of people and companies make money off of you and you get nothing in return. What exactly is so special about streamers doing it?

If you're worried about privacy then why are you playing multiplayer games?

your cut is playing the video game you paid for. No where in a ToS does ti say entitled fucking jane can QQ about streamers. They dont say your real name just your in game name and with blzzard thats only enough to find you on woW if they armory you and can guess what ones correct.

Get over yourself, you are not special.

You should also ask google or facebook about your share of the money they make of you.

Most businesses require other people in order to function, that doesn't mean everyone gets a cut of everything.

You should totally make a big stink about this. Send letters to Twitch and other streaming services and all the video game news sites.

Let your pathetic trolling voice be heard!

Make sure to mention the streamers in question are Nazis though. That's guaranteed to get you at least a few bites.

This is an interesting question, and I'm not sure of the legality of it.

I get the question the OP is posing. On the one hand, yes all the other players in there Multiplayer streams are "unwilling" participants. They have not signed any Waivers letting Johnny Streamer record their gaming session. On the other hand, the viewers are not tuning in and donating to watch you, they are there to see Johnny Streamer, his reactions, his gameplay, and his insights.

Recently I saw a video that actually had me wondering about this. It was a For Honor video in which the YouTuber published recorded dialogue and gameplay between him and other high-ranked players. The dialogue was not favorable, and the video showed these players being beaten in Duels by the YouTuber. Now, the YouTuber is making money off of this and the other players are not, and on top of this those players now have their image tarnished (albeit apparently deservingly so). There are plenty of "clip shows" and "top 10" shows, but those players submit their clips willingly. So its a complicated issue.

You don't own the game you are playing. If anyone is able to get their cut on a streamer playing, it's the publisher of the game. Not you.

In the US there's no law that generally stops you from photographing or taking a videos of people in public and selling them. There are specific situations where you could be sued, but that's it. In WoW the user doesnt receive IP rights needed to sue.

No, just no. I ask you warmly to stop jumping to conclusions and defending the act of being a streamer to rereading what I wrote and to quantify the question I posed. Thank you for your reply.

If a streamer is playing a multiplayer game they cannot do so without someone like me to play with them. They are could possibly be getting donations or ad revenue and they cannot get that without other players to play with, so basically if they don't have those other players chances are they won't be streaming. Those other players deserve to benefit from playing along side people getting revenue, the streamers would not be getting revenue without them.

Plus where in any TOS does it state I forgo my right of privacy to anyone while I game?

You're anonymously playing a character with a nickname in a multiplayer video game. That's your privacy. Anything you do inside of that online server is public.

The moment you step into a public place someone can legally film you and if your identity is never shared then there is no legal obligation to have your permission regardless of what they film you doing while in public. This is no different so get over it.

That Google/Facebook reference reminds me of one of the best quotes out there still proving to be true: "If you are not paying for a product, you are the product being sold."

OT: So if you so happen to come into view during a news broadcast, you expect to be paid for your appearance? You already got your cut, 5 seconds of fame that nobody will ever remember. Get over it.

A lot of people in this thread are making derogatory posts, but I actually think this is a legitimate question. (Not one where a solution actually gets implemented so that the OP can get a cut of streamer's profits, but an answer to the premise he laid out is interesting discussion.)

OP, I think the answer is that nobody forced you to play the game so if you want to quit the game because you don't want the streamer making money off of you, you should be allowed to do that. Of course, there's no way for you to know that you're being recorded so...

Maybe developers need to start implementing a feature in their games where they can opt-out of queuing with players who record footage. (Although everyone probably accepts a ToS where they say they have no privacy while playing the game, anyway.)
