Out of those two, Granite. Prefer wood though.

I prefer pure Australian mud for counters, walls, floors, and even bed.

Granite is far too porous and is harder to upkeep.

A lot of that is builders just following trends to keep buildings quickly selling. It isn't because one is better then the other, it comes down to what is perceived to be most popular at the time.

Wood in the kitchen, good luck with that.

Nice quartz is better than granite, but your average granite is better than ugly cheap quartz.

If you really want to be fancy go with quartzite.

Don't use marble for kitchen counters.

    Best to worst, my opinion
    Quartzite
    Top quantity quartz
    Top quality granite
    Granite
    Quartz
    Butcherblock
    Marble
    Laminate

I've visited a lot of kitchens. Hardly ever seen wood islands.

Give me granite or quarts over this.

Hah, I remember I use to watch design on a dime and they always built headboards or shelves, then hang curtains.

It depends on the home, I like more modern looks but if my home was older and full of woodwork I would go with butcherblock

Got wood right now, works great.

Has to be treated, obviously, can't just use raw wood that'll draw moisture.

I had wooden countertops in my old house, lived there for a year, nothing ever happened to it, didn't warp or anything.

Granite counter tops with nice ingrain wood cutting boards on top. Never want to use knives on stone (usually..)

Who knew you could even be an edge lord on kitchen remodels.
    I have been educated.

We went with granite. We found more options with the stone than with quartz.
We liked the randomness of granite and quartz seems to have a pattern.

I did the backslash myself. Grouting was by far the most frustrating thing I have done in my life.
    So much wiping.

we just built a new home. The "bar" area uses granite but the kitchen area is mostly marble and quartz (for the white kitchen feel) - but one of the larger islands we had was actually done with concrete! looks super modern and sexy.

The smaller island is still quartz.

Actually the misnomer in kitchens is the wide varieties of sinks...holy cow, it's not just sink design but the quality/type of sink you can buy varies more than gas ranges.... (which we are still huge huge Wolf fans)

I've always favored granite, by far.

Neither. Concrete is by far the best. Also the most expensive.

I would absolutely hate my butcherblock being built into an island, though...

Marinace Granite looks awesome. (random internet picture)

Those are not printed rocks, actual slabs of ancient riverbeds.
