so, where do we go from here? Will this help push mental health under the spot light, or will this be forgotten in a week because there's no guns to force a narrative?
This just goes to show that the Longwhorns really need to get their athletics department in line. Years of losing to the Sooners is taking it's toll on their poor students.

Youre trying to weasel out of the dumbest thing said in this thread and attempting, aggressively to flip it on me. I know you just want to be right at this point, so youre right.

I'm glad they used a knife. A gun would have made this much more deadly.

Hah! Saying that it might not be such a good idea to allow mentally unstable people the right to carry arms, is a personal attack on the guns. The guns are strong, independent weapons and will be able to handle themselves!

And just imagine how worse the death toll would have been if he'd had a gun. There's your gun narrative.

Which they can with a kitchen knife. Or steal a large truck and then crash it into a crowd of people. The point is, scumbags are going to do some bad things no matter what. And the innocent ones need the best legal ways they can to protect themselves.

Well...one person with a gun against a lot of people who have none. Yeah, casualties are going to be high. But there was the case of the guy in Cal who killed 6 people. 3 with a firearm and 3 with a knife.

Actually UT is a very very liberal campus. And Austin is one of the most liberal cities in Texas. The professors fought tooth and nail against campus carry. Had the usual demonstrations and such. One of their big ones was "C*cks not Glocks" where a lot of people walked around waving dildos protesting the campus carry implementation. And Texas was not the first state to implement it.

The thing is, when you think about it, the odds of a student legally being able to carry a handgun a very slim. Even slimmer that they will actually be carrying it.
UT Austin has ~51,000 students. You have to be 21 to legally own a handgun. In most cases, that would be your Junior year in College. For simplification, we will say half of that 51,000 population is 21 or above. They are probably not though, it is more likely less. That leaves us with a possibility of 25,500 students having the possibility of legally owning a handgun. Only 3.6% of Texans actually have a license to carry permit. Statistically speaking, ~918 students could have permits. That does not necessarily mean they will always be carrying them. Or if they will ever be carrying them.

Well yeah, if he ploughed through a crowd with a car or a truck it would have resulted in far more damage. From recent attacks, it does seem like a truck attack for a lone attacker is likely to be far more deadly than a gun or knife attack. It will be very difficult for society to adapt to these types of attacks, since making all public gathering places inaccessible to such vehicles is impossible. If it is true that terrorists/mass murderers are actually engaging in some sort of competition in terms of kill count in comparison to other attacks, then it is likely we will continue to see their tactics evolve.

Before the camps, I regarded the existence of nationality as something that shouldn’t be noticed - nationality did not really exist, only humanity. But in the camps one learns: if you belong to a successful nation you are protected and you survive. If you are part of universal humanity - too bad for you -Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Not really. You can't smuggle a car into a school classroom. Cars also weren't made specifically for killing things. There comes back my narrative.
