Ivanka Trump. Now that's a fine woman and I totally wouldn't mind if she'd broken the glass ceiling. She's also smart and beautiful, a to die-for combination.
Dems would ofcourse lose, there's no doubt about it after 2016 election and the aftermath. They either need their leadership figures changed, or come out in the open and admit the many mistakes they committed, which ultimately led to their candidate's failure

But instead of speculating on individuals, I think that ultimately Trump's success or failure in future elections rides on how well his administration governs.

I just cant see anyone beating Donald in 2020. The only person I can see that might have a chance is "Uncle" Joe Biden. But I dont know if he'll even bother running or would want to run for president. Maybe if Barrack made him?

Bernie Sanders of course. Though he'd have to choose a much younger VP. But millennials would turn out in their 10's of millions for him and given that they are already the largest voting block and will have grown substantially more powerful by 2020, its pretty obvious Bernie would win. Bernie would substantially eat away at Trump's working white collar voting base too, though he'd not take the racist and xenophobic ones. Those ones would follow Trump to the grave.

I'm wondering if the GOP will actually try to primary Trump in 2020. It's unlikely but if he keeps creating problems for the party or if the Russia thing just get too much they may try to get someone in who not only can bring things back under control but who would then be eligible to run in 2024.

The question on the Dem side is a very good one. Clinton is done, she won't run again. Bernie is just flat out too old and won't run. Warren doesn't seem interested. Biden will be too old.

The Dems desperately need a next generation of candidates. It's quite likely someone will emerge in the next year or two but for now it's really hard to see who they will run.

A lot also depends on the 2018 election. If Trump depressed GOP and right leaning independent turnout and the left keeps their energy until the election it's possible the house could flip. That will change everything.

If the really unthinkable happens and the Dems get both the house and senate back then we'll see how much Trump actually cares about his policy positions...or if he'll go back to being a democrat to just get wins in. After all he stated "I don't stand for anything". I can see him flipping just to be perceived as a winning president getting stuff done.

I don't know. Biden is almost as old as sanders. Trump is already the oldest president to be elected at 70 and Biden would be...what...77 when election in 2020? 78 when he assumed office? That's just too old IMO.

People are living longer healthier lives than they used to, that means they can be active for longer. It wasn't that long ago you were done in and completely decrepit by 70. That isn't the case anymore.

I don't think age would be an issue as long as a) he was not showing signs of significant infirmity by the time of the election and b) he chose a competent significantly younger VP. After all if they were willing to vote for obese and very unhealthy Trump, so I can't see why they would not chose someone who while older was in much better health.
