Liberia was an African colony set up by America with the intent on sending emancipated slaves from the US and Caribbean islands to Africa. The African-American and Afro-Caribbean settlers were mostly Anglicized of Christian faith and English names, culturally different from the people the settlers came into contact with.
Despite being only 10% of the population, the Liberian settlers brutally oppressed the natives, creating their own version of an apartheid. The US Navy even helping crush and repress native revolts.
Now with Liberia being a shithole, but an identifibly American shithole, could the US just annex Liberia? Considering it's population is only about 4.503 million, it couldn't be that much of a burden on the US economy, plus you could get a decent amount of cheap labor.
Alternatively, I'm sure our neighbors up north wouldn't mind gaining some more land. I can see it now, @Tennisace, Governor of Liberia
