Exactly. The punchline of Colbert's joke wasn't even that Trump's gay. It was that Trump was submissively intimate with Putin. As a woman is entirely capable of that as well, the punchline still stands if Trump was a woman.

Only those who think that being called gay is always meant to be an insult, as in that there's something inherently wrong with being gay, are the ones who think that what Colbert says qualifies as homophobic. Ironically revealing their own homophobia in the process.

Those who are socially liberal don't find anything wrong with being gay, so simply calling someone gay isn't insulting or homophobic to them.

Evidently this distinction is really difficult for conservatives to comprehend.

He answers, "Of course, because I'm a decent human being."

Second instance: A conservative political activist (believes gay people should not have the same rights as all Americans, should be able to be discriminated against for their sexuality, and looks down on them as people) makes a joke that Obama's mouth is worth nothing, except as a cock holster. You then ask him during a rally, "Do you think gay people deserve the same rights as every other American, and should never be ashamed of who they are as a person?" He answers, "No, I don't, and I'm activisting right now to get their equal protections under the law overturned and hope that the next time they go into the grocery store, they can't buy food because it's run by a good hearted Christian."

This is LITERALLY the point that you're arguing. How the fuck do you NOT see the difference?

To put it into even greater perspective. A Jew/outspoken supporter of Jewish people who condemns anti-semetic actions when they happen, makes a Jew joke. Now a Neo-Nazi makes a Jew joke. Are these the same thing?
