As a huge fan of Soundgarden amd Audio Slave, this is upsetting. Put all of my SG/AS songs in a playlist and been playing it all day in the background.

Bummer, always liked Cornell. Soundgarden was my number 1 grunge band when I was young. The guy's voice just crushed, he'll be missed and unfortunate that it was suicide. Sucks, had a family and was still midlife. Too early for sure.
Cornell - Stayley - Bowie - Plant are my top 4 favorite singers. I wasn't ready to lose another one so quickly after Bowie RIP.
Not sure why you feel the need to comment then. Could at least try to be compassionate, guess you're just upping your post count. Anyway...
Really sad news, I've always loved his music. This song in particular was always one of my favorites.

@melodramocracy Expecting someone to continue existing in a state of constant misery just to keep from upsetting some people for a short while is just as selfish. When you're in that state of mind you don't think rationally. To even think about suicide is a terrible thing, to actually commit is another thing entirely and to accuse the person of simply being selfish is pretty ignorant.

Aw man... Vedder and Grohl are all that is left.
RIP Chris and take care in the next life bud.
Soundgarden were great. Chris Cornell had an amazing voice.
Four of the greatest frontmen of the 90's are now dead.
With regard to his suicide...
I'm quite sympathetic when it comes to depression and suicide. I fought depression for years, and I believe it is a mental illness which doesn't care who you are, what you have in your life or what you've accomplished. It is misery.
I still feel that it is a pointless waste of life, especially for individuals with lots of money and resources who could get help.
So sad.

Very famous American singer, guitarist and songwriter. He rose to fame in the early 90's during the alternative rock/"grunge" explosion.

That's just it he had to have had a lot of money, which is the reason for most of us "Normal" Peoples issues. Shit if I had even a fraction of his wealth and could be debt free I don't see how the hell anyone who doesn't have to worry about money can be depressed.
I actually saw an interesting conversation about this on the Joe Rogan Podcast. They were discussing this concept and one conclusion they came to was the possibility of having everything and not having the drive to accomplish anything else. Once you reach the pinnacle what else is there sort of. Either way, it is a sad day. RIP Chris Cornell.
This is my favorite song of Cornell's: occasionally, in the middle of the day, I'd find myself muttering to myself, "Follow me into the desert...."
"Close your eyes, and bow your head, I need a little sympathy. Fear is strong, and love is for everyone who isn't me. Kill your health, and kill yourself, and kill everything you love. And if you live, you can fall to pieces, and suffer with my ghost."

I just wanted to come in and bump this up, mainly because I wanted to make people aware of Chris's solo work. If you were a fan of anything he did, do yourself a favor and go listen to "Euphoria Morning". That is an amazing album. As you can tell by my screen name, I was a huge Soundgarden fan. I was an original member of the "knights of the soundtable" mail-in fan club in the early 90's, and I have dissected every piece of music Chris wrote or was involved in. His death was a shock to me, and still is. Chris battled depression and alcohol, but that was a decade ago or more. For years we heard he had been over it, and there weren't any signs to say differently. Soundgarden was in the studio recording a new album. Who knows how far they got, or if we will ever hear anything Chris wrote during those sessions. It's sad when guys like scott wieland die, but you expect it, and he wasn't really relevant anymore. But Chris was. He was still selling out shows everywhere he went. King Animal was as big of a success as rock music can be these days. Loosing him was a big loss, and I almost feel like I lost a part of myself. It sucks.
It's this type of thinking that causes people to not seek help. In the end, it's all chemicals in the brain, but society wants to tell people to just "suck it up" and "stop being selfish"
If it were that easy stuff like this wouldn't happen. I implore you to do a little more research into mental illness before coming to conclusions like that.
OT: I was never a huge fan, I like Audioslave and Soundgarden but never listened to much outside of their popular songs. A tragedy regardless, and still too young.
The proper waifu is a wholesome supplement for one's intrinsic need for belonging and purpose.
I was shocked by this, just so hard to believe.
Let's not turn this into a thread about the rights and wrongs of suicide please, that's not the topic. Use it to remember the man and his music. Any other debate, create a seperate thread for it.
