Jared Kushner confirmed as under scrutiny by FBI - NBC News

    Drip, drip, drip.

Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and one of his senior advisers, has come under FBI scrutiny in the Russia investigation, multiple U.S. officials told NBC News.

Investigators believe Kushner has significant information relevant to their inquiry, officials said. That does not mean they suspect him of a crime or intend to charge him.

The FBI's scrutiny of Kushner places the bureau's sprawling counterintelligence and criminal investigation not only on the doorstep of the White House, but on the cusp of the Trump family circle. The Washington Post first reported last week that a senior White House official close to Trump was a "person of interest," but did not name the person. The term "person of interest" has no legal meaning.

The officials said Kushner is in a different category from former Trump aides Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn, who are formally considered subjects of the investigation. Records of both Manafort and Flynn have been demanded by grand jury subpoenas, NBC News has reported.

It is not known whether Kushner has received any records requests from federal investigators.

Also unclear is what precisely about Kushner's activities has drawn the FBI's interest as it investigates whether Trump associates coordinated with the Russian campaign to interfere in the election. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is now leading the probe as a special counsel.

Kushner met at least once in December with the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, and he also met last year with a Russian banker, Sergey Gorkov.

"Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings," Kushner's lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, told NBC News. "He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry.

Congressional aides have said they would like to question Kushner about that meeting, and Kushner has said he would voluntarily appear before the Senate intelligence committee as part of its Russia investigation.

Gorkov is chairman of VneshEconomBank, a Russian government-owned institution that has been under U.S. sanctions since July 2014. Gorkov studied at the training school for the FSB, one of Russia's intelligence services.

Kushner, whose family's real estate empire is worth $1.8 billion, according to Forbes, wields significant power in the White House. His is married to Trump's daughter, Ivanka.

So much for the idea that Kushner (and Ivanka) were moderates in Trump's ear. We knew SOMEBODY in Trump's inner-circle was under scrutiny by the FBI, but official sources have now confirmed it was his son-in-law himself.

Maybe they believe that he's impressionable, he's close enough to trump to be able to know and hear things some of his other advisers may not and at the same time he's young enough not to want to throw his life away for some old guy. If what is being suggested about them is true it might be in Kushner's best interest to burn Trump now. Maybe this is their way of trying to put pressure on him.

Oh no! They're going after Trump's boytoy. Who will run the country then?

Nepotism alone is a good enough reason to keep an eye on such people.

You leave Juvia out of this.

Also, this isn't really a surprise, since it was already discovered he had dozens of meetings with Russia

Juvia only cares for Grey-sama. She scowels at attempts to bring her into real life politics.

On topic: Seems Trump's Russia ties were closer to home than we thought.

I've had this working theory ever since it became clear that the Trump campaign was in contact with Russia.

Trump was the subject of over 200 court cases when it came to things like fraud, scamming, broken regulations, and other illegal acts. In nearly every case, someone else took the fall, even when it was clearly under Trump's direction that they did what they did. The courts always had a hard time pinning the actions of Trump businesses on Trump himself, despite common themes of fraud and broken regulation across multiple businesses.

Much like Capone, Trump in the past was a master at delegating fault to someone else, to keep his hands clean. So the Russia collusion has become more than obvious. I just have my doubts that they're going to be able to pin it on Trump, as he more than likely was fully prepared by delegating the entire thing onto his campaign managers, who have almost all been caught with their hands in the Russia cookie jar.

Trump would probably sell out his son in law for a free ride. Makes for good TV.

Thats the thing though. This is the highest level of government, even if he has a fall guy, he too will fall for simply being related to it.

Imagine if Clinton had won and had appointed Chelsea's husband into a key position in the White House. And he had come under "FBI scrutiny"?

The Right would be losing their GD mind.

    No Middle East peace then.

At least Trump is going to have an ally in prison.

I'm pretty sure the Kushner family has had connections to money laundering in the past. Kinda figured this would happen when they said "the investigation has expanded to include things like money laundering".

This could make for some really awkward family dinners.

The business and money connections could very well be what brings Trump down. And you can bet if that happens it'll be a law for presidential candidate to release their tax returns.

It's quite possible Trump's directly involved with money laundering, directly with Russians via Deutsche bank but it'll take a while to find out if that's true or not. This is likely just the first in a series of steps to dig into the Trump family businesses.

This made me feel really sorry for Barron.

Dude had no chance. Born of an arrogant orange and a trophy whore, and no doubt every single day he wishes he wasn't in school because his dad's a meme and you can bet all the kids know it. Beyond the fact that he's rarely or never mentioned or visited by his cheeto-father.

Melania can take him to Slovenia with whatever money Trump has left after everything explodes and change his name to her maiden name.

That actually makes it even more sad.

    Lol

More the Jared-Ivanka-Donald dynamic. If the investigators are trying to get Jared to turn on Trump...
And the awkwardness of Trump being potentially to fire Kush...

Whenever I feel myself wavering about attacking Trump supporters for defending Trump's various bad behaviors, these kinds of thoughts pop into my head and remind me of how totally RUTHLESS they were in attacking Hillary over her emails, and in attacking Obama over his birth certificate, his religion, and any other thing that was even CLOSE to being questionable. One of the amazing things about Obama is that after all of the investigations that the right launched on Obama, both formal ones and informal ones, Obama was as squeaky clean as a President could possibly be. This still amazes me about Obama even today. And the right put him under as much pressure as it possibly could hoping he would crack (even if him cracking would hurt America... they clearly did NOT care about the fate of America).
