The current Tesla cars cost upwards of 100-120k euro new. They are fighting for a share of an incredibly small market in Europe. Even the Model 3 will be too expensive for most people (the basic model without any extras will cost approximately 45k euro including sales tax and electric car tax rebate). It's ALREADY too expensive to sell in any kind of volume over here, before any retaliatory import tariffs are imposed.

I am starting to think that Trump will declare bankruptcy at the end of his term and actually think that will fix the countries problem like with his business. Also for me it looks like Trump is pissed that Merkel was more valued than he was at the summit and it might have hurt his ego.

This seems poorly though out, even by Trump standards. It was probably just him flapping his gums, damaging relations with yet another ally, but nothing will come of it -- other than public mocking, of course.
I wonder if he just wants to tax German cars or generally all foreign cars?

Somebody should remind him he isn't on the campaign trail anymore and should save his empty promises for 2020.

And do for example Bentley, Rolls Royce, Skoda, Seat and stuff count as "german cars" in Trump's eyes?

Anything IT. Software and stuff like that. Europe's IT industry is miniscule in comparison.

That is a good question, since it's Trump, I suspect not.

I don't know about that, as Slant stated: IT, all the fast food outlets like McDonald's, Burger King, etc. Entertainment is also big: TV-shows, movies, music At least here in Germany the market is heavily dominated by US products. I wonder why nobody loses a word about that....

The fun thing is that Merkel is as much an egomaniac as Trump, she's just waaay better in concealing it. Don't know what would happen if you put those two in a room together long enough. Should be an interesting experiment.

because just like BMW and other German companies they have offices and departments all over the world, these cars are made in the US by a us company and if trump wants to tax them more it's going to be extremely difficult to do so. Trump has proven again and again he knows very little of how international business works.

The same goes for McDonald etc, we can't just start taxing these companies because they're of american origin. There isn't a singular McDonald company, it's a lot of small companies in different nation tied together.

Bad can mean both. In the context bad as in un-qualified doesn't make sense. Why would they be unqualified for selling a lot of cars? So of course they went with evil.

I wonder how many Porches Trump owns... How many Audis and Mercedes.

It is a linguistic thing. The German word for 'bad' often needs a qualifier, in this case more like 'bad behaviour', which is simply longer. The word they use is not necessarily one that means evil, either, at least not in the same sense that words like 'wicked' mean. 'Böse' is something that is used more with children, really, and reflects a certain simplicity either on part of the speaker or the listener. As such, it is relatively close to Trump's general style. He likes very simple terms like that in his own language. That is how he uses bad too, after all. As such, it is both in line with his speech patterns and relatively close in sound and writing.

The US entertainment industry is top notch. Video/PC games, movies, TV shows, comics, ... the world would be a much more boring place if not for the american entertainment products.

I guess we can add Trump on the list of american "entertainment products", albeit an unintentional one. Naturally, there are dangers involved with this kind of non-fictional entertainment as it may easily get out of hand. Which is why we should take steps to reduce the US's global political and executive power; they are good at entertainment so that's what their primary global role should be.

There, fixed that for you. I'm not normally one to correct spelling, but that one hurt my eyes. Have a good one.

This explanation actually comes closer than I initially thought. For the Americans, Böse can be translated as any of the following:

Evil, bad, wicked, angry, nasty, mad, cross, naughty, vicious, sinister, malign, villainous, baleful, ferocious, unholy, blackhearted and further adjectives and so on. So some company used this word instead of schlecht, which is a bit sloppy but perhaps they wanted to make a point. Who knows? The funny bit, however, is that it got Google translated back into a wholly different word about which everyone is upset now. :P

I wouldn't worry to much about it. Trump likes to say things but when it comes to actually getting them done it is usually just a laughing stock we all get to enjoy.

That's the thing, though. Europe doesn't want the US to become a laughing stock. Makes the family look bad.
