Did you actually read those articles you posted or what? As they make some good arguments such as preventing pedophiles from molesting children by supporting them rather than condemning them. As for the topic at hand, good to see he got arrested as someone like that definitely doesn't deserve to go unpunished nor should he be allowed to teach other people. And as for the discussion in this thread with everyone just shitting on the other side, isn't the real issue that both sides have some extremists with the rest being normal people, but all they hear about the other side is about the extremists so they assume they all are like that when really it's just a small minority.

A master's is generally acceptable to teach at community colleges, even when teaching STEM or other fields where PhDs are often expected. Diablo Valley College, where he teaches, is a community college.

Missing out on the nuance of academia, that the suspect is not qualified as a capital "Professor". You can teach with bachelor's or none at a CC, they have different accreditation standards, if any.

The man was a violent thug, who viciously attacked someone who was posing no physical threat to him, someone who just had different views to his own. I haven't been through all of the posts, so might have missed the part where you address this (if so, I apologise), but it seems like you are missing the bigger picture.

Don't get me wrong, the title of the thread doesn't cover the OP in glory, and it is presented in an overly partisan manner, but I think that is more of a secondary issue.

EDIT -- I should add that there is value in discussion what sort of societal issues are at play for when you have a significant increase in this type of behavior -- however before that can have any value people have to move away from defending the indefensible.
