I'm more bothered that someone equated GPAs with wealth distribution than the reaction of the students. Anyone in post secondary environment should know better and look at the questioner sideways.

They're not "taking" money from the rich. Taxes are a part of society. If you disagree with taxes, you're free to leave our society.
Everyone who works pays taxes, but for some reason those who earn more have to pay even higher taxes. That's wealth redistribution. Where is anyone's incentive to work harder and earn more when the extra wealth you generate gets redistributed to some peon sitting on a sofa drinking beer all day?

Interesting thing, the Oregon Institute of Technology pays less than Portland State University, let alone UofO or OSU.

If you are a crappy painter, who your parents are generally has little effect on how well you sell your paintings, unless they are really famous.

Gaming enrollment in high demand classes, gaming the professor and TAs for study material thats actually worthwhile, knowing how to navigate the pitfalls of secondary education like getting into a class/having questions and comments addressed rather than conforming to them.

Its kind of sad how much learning a test (in term of just passing a class) can be than learning the actually material. I know people who none of the actual course material but had time to go office hours get the same marks as people who studied hard but didn't have the extra time to "learn the test" since a lot of tests are now dictated by publishers - at least when it comes to common prereqs where a lot of students fail out.

Instead of wasting everyone's time for a dumb laugh, they could have made a legitimate drive to have better students donate their time to help worse students improve their gpa.

But that would have been beneficial for everyone so I suppose it's against their nature.

Redistribution of grades is not a Socialist ideal to begin with, so jokes on you.

Most people with a math degree find that there is not a huge demand for them, same with physics.

Unless of course that wiggle room applies to the whole class, then again, it isn't anything exclusive so it's still an equal playing field.

Because you still have more money than those making less at the end of the day? What a shitty argument you have there.

Of course people who make more money should pay more taxes. Flat tax rates don't work well.
Comrade please...you do know why communism failed I hope.

Punishing the rich for being rich isn't a noble equitable solution, it's the politics of envy that's just a disincentive for anyone to aspire to anything.

Of course people that earn more money pay more, even in a flat tax rate. It's just more fair

    assume 10% flat tax rate:
    Person A earns 40k: tax paid 4k
    Person B earns 60k: tax paid 6k
    Person C earns 80k: tax paid 8k

Well I am certainly glad that this what my fellow conservatives spend their time on, getting people to disagree with some completely unparalleled examples.

These are still all things that aren't exclusive to anyone based on their economic or social background. It falls under the "effort" category to do these things.
Yes, and the demand for most of those degrees is not sufficient to find a good job in the field.

In 2015 the average salary of a full time professor in a public 4 year school was $113k according to Chronical.

Redistribution of grades would be silly - but many socialists actually want an abolition of grades.

Its not really fair though, when you look at the financial impact to each.

Im not sure if you want to base your argument on effort because it takes less effort for a full time student whose tuition is paid for their parents to do what I said than a student working 40 hours on their own to get.

Just from personal experience, its a lot easier to keep your academic career above par when all you have focus on is academics than someone who has to grind outside of school just to afford school. That phenomena isn't event exclusive to college, it can also be observed in high school.

But the IMPACT of that 10% is very different.

I just made a different post about that math trick people.

10% when your making 40k doesn't have the same impact as 10% when you're making 80k. Lets say the minimal cost of living is 20k a year, who is impacted more by that flat 10%? 40k-20k-4k=16k. 80k-20-8k=52k. The latter is still living great while the former better hope they don't get sick or a force of nature comes their way.

You don't go to the story and pay 2% of your yearly income on a loaf of bread. You pay a fixed amount.

Not sure what reality you live in. Not entirely sure about physics but there are several fields I can go into with my math degree. The demand is definitely there. I'm also not just talking about in academia.
There is demand for WWII history majors as well, but the demand vs supply is not in their favor.
