    Healers that don't heal

I can't tell you how many games I get in on Quick Play or even Random and the healer doesn't heal or just pocket heals one person. Despite standing right next to them with nothing going on. Then I hit x a few times to let them know and when they don't do anything I tell them to step up their game. What happens? They blow up and act like they were being attacked (NOPE) and that they weren't able to heal me (NOPE) despite me standing right next to them.

If you can't heal people properly, pick a retard class like Hanzo and let other people heal. Please. /endrage

I primarily play support in Overwatch, so I have a lot of experience with the other side of this. I have been accused of not healing (my favourite time was in a game where I ended up with 26k healing for the game which is pretty high), I have seen my cohealer accused of not healing, and I have certainly seen DPS spam the "I need healing" button endlessly and bitch when they die. I think a lot of times people think this is occurring they are not seeing the full picture.

The majority of the time someone thinks the healer is not healing, the healer is just not healing them. Sometimes they are healing a tank or someone who is more critical. Sometimes everyone is hurt at the same time and choices have to be made. Sometimes that person is a flanker who is out of position for heals. Sometimes that person is taking so much damage that the heals can't keep up. Keep in mind that healers have pretty limited tools for healing. Zenyatta and Mercy can only heal one person at a time, Ana too if she is saving her grenade for debuffs. Lucio has a minor AoE heal that you get just being in proximity to him, and he can only boost that heal to something useful every 12 seconds. The latter instance is where I hear the most complaints; a person is low and my boost has 10 seconds left and sorry mang the best I can do is stand next to you and wait. But even on other healers, sometimes the tank is almost dead and so is the genji who does shit dps, so sorry but I'm picking the tank.

I've definitely seen healers who are overly focused on DPS, and I've seen plenty of games where Mercy pockets the Pharah and ignores everyone else, and I've seen games where the healer means well but has poor situational awareness to notice everyone in need. However, in my experience these are a minority of games. Most games where people think the healer is not healing they are simply mistaken. It's almost always the case that the healer was busy healing someone else or trying to stay alive for a rez or didn't have range/los on the person who needed it. And I play at lower SR/MMR where you would expect to see the majority of bad healers.

Ultimately, if you feel like the healers aren't doing a good job, you should try playing one yourself. You'll never have to worry about shitty healing that way and maybe you'll get a little more insight into the limitations that supports have to deal with.

i don't play overwatch, but in paladins my 2 friends like to pick healers and then not heal for shit the entire game, so now i usually just play healer so they can just be retards on dmg or flank. I also don't let them tank because they can't even do that right.

I've lost count of how many Lucios I get teamed up with who spend 75% of the game in speed rather than heals. I mean for fucks sake, they boosted his team healing rate and people still spend most of the time in speed aura and wonder why the one other healer is struggling to keep the team alive.

Isn't Paladins just a worse Overwatch ripoff?

The only time I don't heal on a support is when I'm playing with a full team of people I know. Damage Mercy ftw.

In random teams, it's tantamount to trolling to not do your hero's primary role. Just imagine a soldier who doesn't attack but only heals, for instance.

I'm pretty sure most healers give their best to keep the team alive, but usually being a good healer is a bit different than being a good dps. Many dps just tunnel all their concentration in aiming and forget everything else around them. As a Healer you have to look where everyone is. It can happen fast to oversee an injured team mate.
Also for some reason people expect me to come to them when they need healing, but i'd rather heal the 3 dps on spot or stay near them during a clash, than going around two houses and fly up to the phara spamming x (or any other flanker who is on a solo tour around the map)

ps: I mainly play Mercy, Ana and Roadhog.
As Ana I often have to value between dps and heal. My Prio 1 is to keep the Team alive, but sometimes shooting phara (at least at my rating) can be better to save everyone than just healing. I get many Teamcomps w/o any hitscan dps.

A decent healer is ALSO providing offense. If you're focused exclusively on healing, you're not doing your job. This is even true of Mercy, who needs to be using her damage beam and yes, even her personal weapon at times.

    Also, everything Tziva said. I main support, almost exclusively Lucio/Zenyatta these days. I get a lot of people complaining about heals when the following are true;

    - They're out of LOS of Zenyatta and are way behind enemy lines flanking. Grab a health pack, you're not getting heals back there. If you pop out and ask for healing, I'll orb you. But you only get a few seconds before it automatically returns if you break LOS.
    - They're not standing next to the Lucio. If I'm not being a crazy man and speed boosting to boop someone into a pit, get in the yellow ring if you want heals. I'm generally baby sitting our push/defense, and making me go out of position because you can't come a little closer is no bueno.
    - The Reinhardt's almost dead. He gets priority over you, Genji. Go grab a health pack.
    - Seriously, health packs. Especially as offense heroes with mobility options. They're WAY faster than the healers.

One of the best tweaks for Lucio is to turn Crossfade to an on-press toggle, not a switch. If I hold Shift, I'm speed boosting, if I let go, I'm healing. Can't ever forget to turn it off.

That said, my healing outside of Amp It Up is meh at best, even after the buffs. If I see an opportunity for a boop, I'm gonna speed boost to capitalize on it while I wait on Amp It Up's CD. A dead enemy/an enemy knocked behind a wall does zero damage, and zero damage is damage I don't need to heal back.

To be fair, up until his recent change, his passive healing was so weak that it was usually more useful to have speed on and then toggle to heals when amp was off of CD, and then swap back. The nonboosted heal wouldn't have saved anyone getting actively damaged anyway, while speed boost might have.

That's different now since his passive healing was buffed to compensate for the reduction in range and heal aura should usually be kept on and speed used situationally. But if you're counting the whole of your experience in the game with Lucios both pre and post patch... that's probably why you've seen so many of those. They weren't necessarily playing wrong.

(I've certainly seen some of those post-patch though, so I don't disbelieve your experience)

From my experience the people that complain about not being healed the most are the people that run off to attack the entire opposing team alone. I guess they expect the healer to follow them to certain doom so they can try to be a badass or something.

TBH doesn't happen often. But usually playing tanks and the few times I see a mercy duo tag only pockethealing his friend, it makes me sad

I like Hanzo, he's just the goto hero for insults. Lol

And I whine about quick play yes because while it's just a casual game mode, people do like to get XP and it's probably the fastest way to do so. So when you get people who just don't do their job, it gets a bit frustrating.

While I do agree with you here, this wasn't my case at all. I was D.VA and I literally was right next to her on the payload the entire time. To make things worse, she was healing a roadhog who could already heal himself

And I do that too, but not very often. Smart players won't give you that opportunity. Lately I've stopped going lucio on Ilios and Lijiang tower because players are getting smarter and not presenting the opportunity for me to boop.

I've never had an issue keeping teammates up as lucio pre or post patch, ones that play right at least. Hes certainly no main healer like mercy or ana, but if you bolt yourself to the point using whatever cover is available (if it's available, cart for example) and you keep amp on cooldown he does a pretty decent job keeping other players up outside of the main heals.

The maps where there are plenty of boop options, the existence of an enemy Lucio often makes the enemy team make certain choices. Same if you have a Pharah, for the same reason; the risky routes aren't safe choices, so they're avoided. That means you can better focus on those other approaches, and you've got the boops if they DO try and take the riskier path.

It's not always about getting the boop. Making the enemy choose differently in response to the risk is a win. Just not a tangibly visible one on the kill feed.

Not that I'm criticizing, i'm just pointing out that an enemy team being "smart" and avoiding dangerous routes means the boop hero has restricted their options just by existing.

I'm not criticising the overall viability of Lucio as a healer. I'm just saying that there have been periods in Lucio's existence where speed was the default and heals were toggled to, rather than the other way around. Before the recent buff -- but after his prior nerf -- his passive healing was so weak that it couldn't outheal any kind of active damage being done; it was only 13 HPS. As a result, it was often better strategically to leave it on speed aura whenever amp was on CD, since speed gave your team survivability (escaping a hog hook, avoiding ults, etc) on damage that couldn't be healed through by the passive aura alone. Then you'd toggle back to heal in order to use Amp for some great healing, but then back to speed.

Boosted heal was still great then and remains great now, and Lucio has always been a very viable support pick. I was only making the argument that Lucios that used to have speed aura on a lot were not necessarily playing poorly.

Theres always two sides to this,

Take for example, I was healing on zen alone (might of been mercy), we were attacking the point, our reaper runs in ahead of the tanks and takes a bucket load of damage, our winston goes in next and takes full focus, so I'm pocketing healing him as the full focus is on him, the reaper has wraith formed out, went LoS (nepal is it, square room, point in centre of map?) He then proceeds to stand back in sight and spamming heal me, heal me, heal me, while the winston is still on point contesting. Needless to say he died from being stationary.

He proceeded to call me a retard at which I responded in kind calling him a silly cunt. He literally spammed heal me that many times, he could of traveled back around the corner, got the health pack and got back in from the flank before he was down (put it this way, the heals on the winston nearly got me up to full ulti). As far as I'm concerned a tank taking direct damage then and there has a greater priority than a DPS spamming heal me when they can get a health pack.

Was in a rated match earlier with a mercy who literally never healed the entire match. She put her dmg boost on reaper for the entire match. They'd die together, then rez and repeat.
