That's not what I meant. I meant that I agree that the 'equivalence' is false, but in a different way. Whenever we have actual hate crimes on our hands, most news outlets and even goddamn presidents of countries shout 'let's not jump to conclusions, we must understand that this isn't the true face of X'. But when some random crime happens, those same news outlets can't resist using any connection of the victim to 'special groups' as a 'hate crime' card.
