If the drug trade related crime in mexico is going to be named as a reason to still do it perhaps the country that brought that on mexico should pay for it? [Edit: that would be the US of course]

Good luck with that. Even if it gets approved it'll be bogged down in legal battles for years. At which point Trump would be out of office and the whole project could be shut down.

The wall is never going to happen. Hell we have a fence that only covers a third of the border right now and it had plenty of troubles, if Trump wants a wall that's ever larger, longer, taller, and wider I hope he knows it won't be happening for years, if ever.

That doesn't look like 30 feet of concrete and rebar to me. And it sure as hell ain't ten feet higher.
And the idea of a border tariff is not getting a lot of momentum, either. Tax reform is admittedly delayed because...well, because Trump's team can't seem to do anything remotely like the timetable they promised, but the House and Senate GOP don't seem too fond of the idea based on 80 to 90 percent of reports so far.
And Mexico continues to laugh at Trump on the hour, every hour, for thinking Mexico would pay for it.
So I'm not that sure we will pay for the Wall. I think there just flat-out won't be one.

It's all sorts of strange. Who is going to own it? Does that mean Trump will have a government owned energy company, whose revenue will pay for the wall? Is there a tax that will be imposed to do it? Will he sell off public land to do it? Rent fees? Then there is the size issue... we would be relying heavily on low solar panels prices from China, due to massive government subsidies, this would a huge boon to China. Originally Posted by Noxx79

Trump needs Congress to pass funding -- and since we're not in a balanced budget situation it would require either raising taxes or increasing the deficit to pay for the wall. Neither thing the GOP controlled Congress will agree to, and certainly the Dems aren't going to support the wall so his idea is deader than dead. He has a better chance of getting tax reform rather than the wall.
