Overpopulation.

This is totaly incorrect. The % of homosexuals in the population is so small they have no impact on fertility rates.

The biggest contributors to overpopulation are the amount of ressources and enery sources made available to the masses. The appearance of oil as our main ressource for practicaly everything and how it revolutionized industry has made world population grow exponentially (5 billion increase in world pop in the last 60 years).

Sexual orientation has no incidence on population growth, heterosexuality is and will always be the norm. No animal species has gone instinct because all of a sudden all males started fucking eachother exclusively.

They are relative low tech to developed countries. But they do have technology to fight child mortality rate, which is why it has decreased by a huge margin. And while we have always attributed their high birth rates to the fact that they expected most of their children to die while still young, it either doesn't hold (other motivation for getting children; not using contraceptives, cultural/social pressure, etc. are also in place) or their expectations simply haven't changed yet.

Adoption right is the biggest issue I believe that people have had over the years. Merkel has this ultra conservative notion that a "family" is always a traditional mother-father-kid(s) triangle and therefore she stopped any attempts at gay couples trying to get a full custody of the child for both parents.

This is partly why I dislike Merkel so much. Used to work as a freaking physicist, but is a strong believer. Takes liberal stances on human rights, freedom of religion, inclusion, all that. But gay marriage? Fuck no, think about the church. Think about our values. What the hell, woman?

Some day soon we will have a Referendum in Australia to see if people want to legalize Gay marriage.

Did the German Parliament get the opinion of the German Community to see how they felt and whether they opposed Gay Marriage ?

Or did the German Parliament just vote for Gay Marriage without asking how everyone felt about it ?

There was a majority to fully legalize gay marriage for almost 20 years now, overall 72% of germans were pro gay marriage (from a current representative poll), even 56% members of the conservative party of Merkel (who personally opposes gay marriage and also voted with no) agreed to it.

Well, she is also the daughter of a priest, and in the conservative christian party. On some things people can compromise, other things are binary and personal.
