Well first, states don't print money. Second, we have some laws on the book which make state property difficult to lease or sell.

Additionally your assuming anyone wants to buy land in Illinois.

People acting like austerity does anything other than kill an economy. What Illinois needs is a good dose of popular, socialist investment.

Well we kind of have that except its Cook County who gets hammered with all the specialty taxes so the rest of the State doesn't have to pay as much. Now if we maintained the 5% property tax boost we had previously and the entertainment, cigarette, and the other twenty-something taxes levied on the city of Chicago and Cook County was actually spread to the rest of the state...We'd likely not be in this situation. Unfortunately it's at the point where people who usually take stands against wealth redistribution as theft are actually advocating stealing from workers earned pensions to pay the bills that years of bullshit on both sides of the aisle has created.

Well Illinois has a budget finally. Rauner's veto was overriden. It took a number of republicans to switch sides to do it, that's how bad it got that even they got fed up with it. It still doesn't fix most (or any really) of Illinois' problems, but at least for a year the state can somewhat function.
