I like alt history stories, but this seems like one of the least interesting. I have to imagine this idea started with someone saying, "You know what would really piss people off?"

Their dream scenario must be loads of people getting pissed and enough other people who want the south to rise again being vocal about it so there's a huge shit storm.

    Well, that sounds stupid.
The reports of my death were surprisingly well-sourced and accurate.

Very interesting. I love these alternate timeline things like The Man in the High Castle.

I find it odd that many Americans, even in this thread, are pissed off by the concept.

I would like to see a series about the second crusade being a failure and Islam taking over the entire earth. That would be fucking crazy to watch.

You could only find one alternate history series with the Civil War as the pivot point ?

One thing that could really hook me here, is if the slaves are of various races... which is a little more accurate as an institution and a likely development in a country where wage slavery wasn't the dominant employment method.

It's really stupid considering economic conditions would have lead to the abolition of slavery even if the south did successfully split from the union

Depends on who you're trying to convince, and if their plan is to show up some mirror to society are positive portrayals of modern slave owners going to be anything besides klan porn?

Yeah, but much like American History X if you glorify the people you're trying to satirize/analyze/hold up a skewed mirror to then why do what you're doing?

I mean they can make what they like, and we can talk however we want about it, but the smug way they're gonna pat themselves on the back as if they're going to make some great true art with this thing is really just an excuse to avoid criticism while they make klan porn, they'll play both sides and rake in praise. Liberals will love it cuz they'll pat themselves on how much better america is now and how they arent racist like the "real racists" and the alt righters will have a high budget show presenting a functioning modern world with slavery, a wet dream funded and presented by the same "liberal elites" that always mocked them.

I can't think of a more effective recruitment tool if I tried, and they're going to make it cuz they can't see why even if it's done great it's still a shitty idea.

So a confederacy can only exist with slavery? What bullshit!

I think D&D are taking advantage of their stock being high to take on an interesting premise.

I don't find it controversial, at least not any more than Man in the High Castle, which depicts a world where the Nazis & Co. won WWII. I think stories need to touch on potentially risque topics to give people things to talk and think about. If it was all nice and safe, there wouldn't be much opportunity for growth.

That said, I think D&D are somewhat overrated, and are riding on GRRM's coattails with GoT. The meat of the GoT story was told in seasons that were adapting and altering 5 novels + who knows how many pages of notes on where the bulk of the story is headed. Where they have deviated heavily from Martin's writings and changed things I think the overall story has suffered greatly (see: all things Dorne). That's not to say I think GoT is a bad show, or that it hasn't delivered a number of awesome visuals, but I think these guys are taking credit for things they didn't REALLY do/write/create.

I'll give their next show a try, mostly because I think HBO tends to turn lead into gold, not unlike Marvel.

No, I could find a lot more. I used the most popular series as a point.

Yeah I saw that, seems like the show is going to get canceled.

These idiot SJWs are going on about how racist and evil "white male Hollywood" is, how the two black writers of this show are just token blacks to spread racist propaganda, how comparing it to Man in the High Castle is terrible because Germany apologized and paid reparations for the holocaust, while white people in America are still evil and didn't pay reparations for slavery, etc...

Its fucking laughable... But idiots gonna idiot and it was trending, leading to HBO and everyone involved in this project to release statements apologizing.

And the twitter campaign only just started, its going to get progressively more and more retarded until HBO gives up.

I recomend you read Harry Turtledove "Southern Victory" and how they handles the question.

Then we have Spartacus by HBO, slave gladiators was a institution and by different races, and wage slavery wasn't the dominant employment method.....
