WoW may be one game, but you can easily pick up other MMOs with that knowledge.
I'm a gamer despite sucking at shooter games and other genres.

Funny how people feel this need to place factors of "more or less" into these things. I'd have to disagree with the statement though. I feel that I wasn't more or less of a gamer when I played 3 different games with mild enthusiasm than I was when I played 1 game before ( and since) WoW with huge enthusiasm...
I love games, I usually only can play 1 game at a time though. And when I am subbed to WOW it's the only game I play. Like I am currently only playing D3 since the New season released. So I would consider myself a gamer.
I wouldn't consider one a gamer if they only play 'once in a blue moon' or, 'only when a friend asks'.
However if you put time aside to do it, or make plans to do it, especially consistently, you're probably a gamer even if you don't want to be.
Limiting yourself to one game is just as bad whether it's WoW or Farmville. A proper gamer plays multiple games, not just one.
If you play video games as a hobby then you are a gamer.
It depends on how you define "gamer", I guess.
To me, a gamer is anyone who plays videogames frequently and/or in a regular basis. Be it console, PC or mobile games. Someone whoe plays some mobile/console game once a month or twice a year (like some parents playing Sing Star in Playstation, for example) isn't a gamer to me, but someone who every day plays a mobile game while in the train going to work (or coming back home), someone who spends 50 minutes playing a LoL/DotA match every day, or someone who spends 4 hours playing FIFA in the XBOX is, indeed, a gamer.
It has nothing to do with the amount of games playing at the same time.
No, but he is not playing a game to play a game, he is playing the game cause he cant get his ass off the couch cause its too much hassle to run around kicking a ball, while wanting to pretend he is part of the football community.
I am pretty clear about what i am implying, and as i already said, a gamer is someone whose first choice after real life issues is to play games, its not to read a book, its not to fix his car, its not to travel, its "I HAVE 2 HOURS, I NEED TO SEE PIXELS MOVING".
Do you consider yourself an athlete if you only play one sport?

I voted "other", I chose this because at the age of 27 I no longer play any game outside of blizzard franchises. I've grown out of a majority of gaming and console gaming had lost my interest years ago. So all I play now is Wow, Diablo, Hots, SC2, and hearthstone but mainly I only play WoW/Hearthstone. I consider "gamers" to be people who play a wide variety of games/follow gaming trends which I most definitely used to do when I was younger. I grew up gaming on sega/snes, had every iteration of PlayStation and Xbox and remember a time where I had well over 100 DS,PS3, and Xbox 360 games when I was in highschool.
But as I grew up began traveling, partying, and especially now as I focus on my career and relationship I simply don't have time to waste on fad games I definitely would have picked up back in the day. I just stick with the few games that's I've been playing for more than half my life as I'm deeply invested into the lore of the franchises, plus blizzard simply has a level of polish no other gaming company can match in my opinion.
Classes/Specs: Retribution Paladin, Outlaw Rogue, Frost Mage, Destruction Warlock.

I consider myself a gamer because I enjoy games as a hobby.
Says you.
I have yet to find a single case of this being the official requirement in order to be considered "a gamer".
As others have pointed out, being a gamer is down to the mentality one has towards them, not some arbitrary rule of "you must play this or that many gaems in order to qualify!"...
i thought this was going to be intelligent, as i saw the shortened title, and thought maybe it was going to be "do you consider yourself a gamer if you only play mobile games" and i mean, that would be interesting to talk about.... But seriously... playing wow makes you one of the most gamey gamers out there
as other then mario, pokemon, and pacman its one of the best known video game franchises in the universe
the whole gamer tag is annoying and cringey sounding anyway.
i mostly just play open world rpgs, whether fantasy, scifi, or whatever. sometimes they're mmos. wow just happens to be the best one right now, and the only other popular one is weeb trash.

i've never understood why people treat mario as some divine mark of gaming. like it's one of the most like top of the surface games out there, it's not even driftwood, it's sitting on top of the ocean.
same with zelda at this point. they're the go to things for popular people to talk about "le am such gamer XDXDXDXD" to be cool when the situation calls for it.
