    Atomic Blonde - 8/10

Loved it, remember all those boring action movies with Angelina Jolie? David Leitch and Charlize Theron decided to do a solid one thats R rated. Its just a fun movie. Everything about it i enjoyed. It was neat looking, simple yet effective story, great action, good acting. The only downside is that its a straight up action movie, mabye not as cheesy as a 90s one, but you know what to expect.

To be honest to me it displays what i expected, Theron just seems to have found her action hero mojo ever since Mad Max and no shes not even playing it similar to Furiosa in this movie. Doing her own stunt work nowdays is really paying off on screen.

If you miss the 90s and want some kind of renewal of action heroes that still manage to not feel outdated while keeping a weird vibe of its own that the era had. See very good fight choreography done by an actress that you can tell is doing the stunt on screen. Youll be entertained, plus theres a lesbian scene with Charlize Theron... who doesent want to see that?

Stay away if you dont like: Action movie, Charlize Theron having sex with another women, gore.

    I see.

I am personally rarely amazed by older movies. I'll watch some of the big acclaimed classics (such as Casablanca or Citizen Kane), and think they are great (8/10) movies, but the older way of making movies, the acting, the pace, the writing, the cinematography, etc, just doesn't quite get to me enough that I can give them 9/10 or higher. The shortlist of movies from pre-2000 I have given 9/10 is:

    Fight Club (1999)

    American Beauty (1999)

    The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

    Forrest Gump (1994)

    The Lion King (1994)

    Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

    Dead Poets Society (1989)

    12 Angry Men (1957)

I agree with Arrowstormen's list but I would add,
    The Silence of the Lambs
    Good Will Hunting

As per Ysilla my first experience with 12 Angry Men would have been the 1997 TV remake. I stumbled upon it one night and I had no idea what it was or even that it was a remake. Loved every minute of it.

To go along with The Usual Suspects conversation above I would recommend The Game (1997) and Fracture (2007). Neither are as good as The Usual Suspects but I enjoyed them all the same.

The story was very enjoyable to follow, and the way the case is presented slowly through the justifications of the jurors while letting you know the story but still learn more was well done.

But uhhh. Call me picky but I can't consider it a movie so I don't want to rate it. And saying that makes me think of what my definition of a movie is, and while it'd be too long to explain again, it just felt like 12 Angry Men was a very extended nicely presented conversation. I still praise it (I'd probably rate it 8 or 9), especially considering the time it was made, but it felt like something I'd casually watch for enjoyment like a youtube video or something.

Maybe it's because there's no real plot, or maybe because the plot isn't typical? Or maybe because there's no action/comedy so I can't pin down a genre? It felt indie. Still, it was good. I'm glad I watched it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Bookmarked the other recommendations given and still waiting for hellhamsters. Gonna try to watch some more when I get a chance.

It's coming tonight, was busy all day yesterday.

How big do you want this list to be? All the 10/10s or a representative sample?

Top 5 or 10 but sorted by genre. Unless that's too difficult.

I mean. I guess all 10/10s? How many could there possibly be.

    My process is:
    1. See movie names from the recommendation posts (I may have to start a spreadsheet now since so many people are giving recommendations).
    2. Look for the "famous name but I haven't seen it yet" names.
    3. Check a quick summary of it and the rating on IMDB.
4.A. If it looks really good, make sure it's on a streaming site and watch it.
4.B. If it looks eh, go back to step (2) and see if we can find something even butter.

There's quite a fuckton of movies so even if the 0.1% are 10/10s,that's still quite a lot.

I assume you haven't seen every movie ever though. Even if you have seen 10 000 movies, 0.1% would still only be 10.

Either way, unless you have more than 100 10/10s, I don't see why you wouldn't just list them all.

    Dunkirk
    8/10

I had some doubt about this movie as most history epics now days are kind of not as good as they used to be. But this reminded me why I liked them to begin with, it really shows you fear and doubt in the soldiers. I loved it, while I don't think there were any real development on characters here, I do feel that was purposely done, as it showed actual struggle as a whole not just a bunch of solders huddled together talking about their folks back home like most war movies do now days. And while I do kind of miss that because I am a sucker for character development, this movie is an exception, I enjoyed it, there's alot of emotion and passion here. As someone who had love ones fight in WW2 it really brings it home to see some of the sacrifices that were made.
I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW

Saw Donnie Darko. Streamed it on TV living room.

It was a'ight. I guess for its time it was good.

The acting was pretty good from the main character. He really sold "troubled scary psychotic chemically imbalanced teen".

The plot/story itself was good, but it wasn't REALLY that mind-fucky to me. Not as good as other movies, I guess.

The main problem is that the whole movie was soooooooooooooooooooooo slow. I can get that a lot of it was to set the mood, but it felt like a bunch could be cut. Like, I honestly think it the plot could be turned into a 30 minute video instead of a 2 hour long movie, and still have the same impact.

I have to give it 1/10. It was something to watch (if maybe a bit dated), but not something I'd go out of my way to see. Probably even within the genre of mind_fucks, it's not as good as others.

Damn yo that's a long list. Alright I bookmarked the post...I saw maybe 20% of the list? Maybe 10? Maybe 25? But I'll have to power through it eventually.

Btw if any of you movie buffs want to comment on his list, do it. I'm interested in disagreements, too.

Saw a 3 episode mashup of the upcoming anime The Ancient Magus Bride

9/10 easily. The full show is starting in October, and its very moving and emotional.

    Actual *movie* was Valerian

6/10, gorgeous, almost lifelike aliens and cgi

    bad cast.

    The Mummy - 6/10

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but not great either. Tom Cruise was decent, still doing his own stunts and all. Russel Crow was ok, his "side" character, lacked physical evilness, IMO. I liked the ending. But I can't get out of my mind the first Mummy movies with Brandon Fraiser. The movies are almost the same, as if you can't reinvent a Mummy story.
But we're gonna have a Werewolf, Dracula, Frankenstein and a Monster of the Blue Lagoon coming to, which will be all part of the same "universe/story". Hopefully as a whole it will be decent.
