Need help building PC for the first time.

    Budget: $ 700 USD - $1000 USD
    Resolution: Standard...?
Games / Settings Desired: WoW, LoL, FFXIV.
Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): No
    Country: USA
Parts that can be reused: No
Do you need an OS? Yes, Windows 10?
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? Yes, nothing fancy but not the cheapest option either, will also need a basic webcam and a computer table.

Basically need a new computer to play online games and the occasional low intensity steam game, chat with my mom on skype and work through a hotel company dealing with reservations at home, I take it the last two wont be an issue but may as well throw it out there.

    Thank you.

Not only that, but this particular poster was directed to make this thread in a thread about how bad the builds of the month are, so double whammy.

Is that budget including the Webcam and Desk?

The reason for one stick of memory is so you could upgrade to 16GB later or you could use a Mechanical HDD and drop the SSD and save some bucks to get a kit of (2x8) 16GB of memory.

Good builds from @moremana. Change options to drop the price. EVGA-500B (cheaper supply, solid. Downside kinda ugly yay ketchup and mustard) (save 26) Dropping to a 240 or 250 ssd from sandisk. (save 60 should be enough space for those three games windows skype and should leave nearly 115gb of space left)

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-151-_-Product

Computer case - Most cases in the 50$ range should be good. Get what looks good to you! Make sure it has a fan in the front for intake and a fan in the rear for exhaust.

    Motherboard - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-019-_-Product
change to this to save 30ish dollars.

The extra money can go towards the table and webcam you want.
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-469-_-Product (40)
    Desk
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (40) (I personally own this desk and its a sturdy solid desk)
    Headset
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitech...?skuId=8785729 (40)

Saved off manas ryzen build (115) and added (120) to the cost. You could opt to not get the headset and should keep your price right under 1k.

Another option is the get the 240ish SSD and get a 1tb Western digital Storage drive.

Another place you can save money is getting windows from Kinguin and get buyers protection (multiple people on this forum have used this option. I personally have not so buyer beware if you opt for this option)

Well you dont have to be. Most of us on here have our own opinions and they get in the way sometimes, but for the most we are all on the same page and agree on the principle, pointing out that the bom to someone asking for build help is counter productive. These forums are for help, which is why there is a sticky for build help.

Are they opinions, yes they are, but they are all good for information to the people that need to know. My build may differ from others, I have reasons for my preferences as so do others, guiding him with knowledge is what he seeks, not criticism for asking. The only stupid question, is the one that is not asked.

    Welcome to the Computer Forums.

I wanted to recommend you a build with a RX 570, but then I noticed the prices. Bitcoin miners, shit is going too far m88s.

moremana's Intel build is the best so far, especially if you emulate games. However, I would cheapen out on a keyboard and mouse, but that's just me.

Personally, i think the ryzen build is better. For $50 more you get 4 cores instead of 2c/4t and the ability to OC. Just my opinion.

Yeah, but sadly enough most programs (especially emulators) value single core performance the most. If Ryzen can reach g4560's 3.5 ghz, then definitely go for it, it's more future proof.

Yeah, it actually reaches about 3.8 pretty easily.

Take a look at the Cinebench Single Threaded w/ an OC here:
    https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/..._3_1200/9.html
    It beats the G4560.

Sadly, they did not do OC tests for the games apparently, but I imagine you'd see a similar picture. It losing w/o the OC, but being very close or beating with the OC. The more actual cores is just a bit of future proofing, as it will last longer. You can see that in multi-threaded workloads it easily wins.

You also have the fact that the AM4 Socket will be used for another generation or two but the intel socket is dead. So you save yourself money for an upgrade later on down the road.

I used to think that the G4560 was the budget king, but when you can get a true 4 cores and the ability to OC for so little more, I have to question it. $50 is not quite the difference to bump up to the next tier GPU, but if it made the difference for you in getting the next tier GPU or not then maybe not worth it. It's a tougher call than most people seem to make it out to be IMO though.

Hey guys, I read some posts mentioning that if I`m going to buy a new pc I might as well wait a few months because of something something miners and prices will go down, how true is this? Is it really worth the wait?

Also, thanks for the excellent suggestions so far.

If there's no rush, I'd definitely wait for some prices to go down.

Any cheap but good pc table recommendats?

  17. #17
    BUMP!

So I totally missed that someone already posted tables recommendations.

Two questions: These builds that have been recommended... would I be able to connect to wifi or do they require a specific hardware? If so, any recommendations?

How hard would this computers be to assemble? I`m not a pc genius but I`m not technologically impaired either, is there a capital sin people normally make while assembling these things?

Bonus question: I heard something about some announcement happening today, should I expect prices to go down soon thereafter?

    1) No, you do require specific hardware. Motherboards that usually come with build-in wifi are either ITX formfactor (meant to be used in a portable PC) or very highend ATX ones (which simply have everything manufacturers could think of putting in). For everyone else it's cheaper and easier to buy an add-in wifi card.
    2) Not hard at all, plus there are a lot of videos on the internet, likely with the same hardware you're using.
    3) Not usually how it works with processors. You could see some drops with motherboard prices, but nothing significant.
