How much is he involved? After he left a new writer was brought in as well as a new director, and all I can see is that he's involved as a producer only. And believe me, I've seen tons of shit that was "produced" by someone great.

hes a producer and he has a writing credit, so he did some of the writing as well.

I liked the first one, but Charlie Humm was what really made it good. Every other character just seemed bland and sort of forced.
Like Charlie Day, I think he is hilarious(ISIP is a great show) but in this he just seems out of place. The whole drifted with a kaiju and how it can track him down was pretty "eh" worthy.
I'll most likely go and see this one though

Plus we got the new addition of Scott Eastwood, who has been bland in everything I've ever seen him in(Charlie Hunnam is definitely better) and John Boyega hasn't shown me anything that wins me over yet either.
wait what? But... how? Those three were major reasons for why it worked.

Well... tempered enthusiasm then. They're continuing a thing I liked, but changing a lot of things that I did like. Could be awesome, could be newDMC all over again. and that got me to go full on rage nirvana. It was neat. I was so pissed off, I achieved a transcendental state and felt as one with all the universe for a minute or so. Either that or I had an aneurysm or something.

On one side the first was so good I want a sequel.

But than one scream "fake sequel" so much it hurts. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worse.

A pacific rim where you don't cancel the apocalypse sounds weak.

I loved the first because it gave me exactly what I wanted. Giant robots fighting giant monsters, but with decent special effects. As long as this one delivers on that, then I'll be just as happy with this one. Didn't care about the story or any of that, I just wanted to see the fight scenes.

Not according to Del Toro he doesn't. He WAS writing it, then when he gave up directing he said they were bringing in a new guy to write a new script, and he was just going to be producing. And according to Wikipedia, the script is written by 4 people, and while it's based on Del Toro's original story, Del Toro himself isn't writing any of the actual script.

Best dumbest giant robot stupid movie ever

I thought I would like it - its kind of a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion with giant cool monsters and mechas...but somehow the film just bored me.
That teaser trailer looks more like a cheesy power rangers or something so I'm not particular hyped.
The next godzilla on the other hand.. !

Watched this first one and Godzilla over the weekend. Acting was terrible as expected.

So would Godzilla be a category 5 or higher?

Pretty much, I mean of all the movies I go see in theaters, it was one of the few that delivered because it was really straight-forward with what it was selling.

"Pacific Rim! Come see giant robots fight giant alien monsters!"
    And guess what I saw?

Hell yeah! Dai-Gaurd Buster Superdimensional Evaexphon 2 is finally coming!

Seriously though, loved the first as I've been a huge fan of mecha anime since 1986!

Yup, I always thought of it as the live-action Eva movie that ADV (defunct and now publishes anime under several different names) was writing/planning since 2002/2003 but never came to be. Got exactly what I paid for and expected.

Saw Robot Jox in 1990 as well, shit movie but goddamn it was amazing as a 10 year old.

I'm... more cautious then optimistic. I saw first one in a movie theater. twice. LOVED it. but things that i loved about the first movie... may potentially be ruined by the second? so i don't know... I guess we'll see? I'll read moviespoiler when it comes out and then decide if I want to movie theater it.
