Can't stand weddings, myself; I always decline invitations unless they're from immediate family/very close friends when I'd feel bad not showing up. The author is welcome to go in my place to other weddings I get invited to.

I had a friend who passed away recently whom was always upset she never got invited to somebody's wedding.

As for me, I did a ton of them years ago. I'm kinda sad that I haven't gone to one recently (but then again, almost everybody I know got married :P)

    Interesting argument.

I am not a fun of attending weddings myself as a lot of them are so over the top. So wasteful. Still, you gotta appreciate someone treasuring the value of marriage.

What this shows is why you should get married as early as possibly. It must be an awful feeling to be middle aged and wondering what to do about it.
Never thought I would see Tennisace advocating women to do something because they "should" and not because they want to.

For the sake of "tradition", they say. Apparently, this takes precedence over anything practical or logical.

Some people like getting their nuts stomped on, doesn't mean I shouldn't/can't complain if someone does it to me.

...I have no social media and generally avoid other people like the plague and still get invited to weddings every other year or so. Calling bullshit on the article.

Weddings are the best. I've been to about 10-15 of them and have been in 3. Everyone is usually in a great mood, people are dressed up nice, and theres an open bar at the reception if they aren't poor/cheap. Never understood why some people dont like them. Only one I wasnt the biggest fan of was a 1.5 hour long catholic service.

Tennisace is obsessed with marriage and never mentions children plus nothing says getting married means you have to have children.

Uh, where the fuck do you go to weddings? I've been to a ton before I started skipping them, and not once did I get asked to pay. A few have had a cash bar, but that's not the same thing.

    *Buzzer sound*

A lot of places treat de facto relationships pretty much the same as marriage as far as division of assets goes.

Perhaps some countries do, but in the U.S., common law marriage is voluntary and requires certain actions by the couple, including acting as though they're married (calling themselves Mr/Mrs, Husband/Wife, etc.), filing joint tax returns, etc. And if one person denies this status, it's the responsibility of the other to prove it. The whole ordeal about living together for 7 years automatically making you "common law married" is poppycock. And some of the few states that still recognize it are either throwing it out altogether or throwing out cases about it because it bogs down the court system over a status change that, if truly intended, is as easy as going to the courthouse and paying for a license.

Sure the law varies from place to place, but if you think you can avoid division of assets by not tying the knot, you might well have a nasty surprise waiting for you.

I enjoy a good wedding. I HATE the lead up to it. Like, can I score a hot date to it? Should I not bring a date and snooch on the loose nooch at the wedding, how much am I about to spend on my outfit etc. As much as I hate the anxiety leading up to the wedding, I have a fucking great time at them.

I think I will take my lawyers word over some guy on a video game message board.

EDIT: Although my prenup is more unusual than most.
