This story reminded me of bedbugs. While people use "don't let the bed bugs bite" loosely, I tell you, if you experienced bed bugs, you would not laught at it. The whole apartment building got infected because someone brought them from the vacation. It was HELL.
All blood sucking, flesh eating bugs should be exterminated.
And yeah, in Australia, everything is either poisonous or sucks blood, and want to eat you.

Since 1900. The average is ~3 per year.

Fun fact, shark attacks were overtaken by selfie deaths in the US in 2015. 12 died, so like 4 times as many who die to sharks in Australia each year.

Technically, only insects of the order Hemiptera are actually bugs.

Only because no one actually lives there. If it were more densely populated you would have much worse stats.

Well in the US we have the lovely Naegleria fowleri that literally eats through your brain and is pretty much almost always fatal .

Yes, most of these deaths are in the sparsely populated rural regions. In cities where the vast majority of the population lives, these kinds of deaths are virutally unheard of.

I just finished telling you that we've had 1 spider death in the last ~40 years.

Snakes, sharks and crocs kill ~1-2 per year.

Horses kill like 5 times as many.

    Seriously, it's a myth.

Australia has over 2x the number of fatalities per 100,000 for snake bites vs the US, despite the US have ~10x the number of snake bites. Australia has more venomous snakes than non-venomous snakes, the only continent this holds true. Plus 5 of the 10 most potent venoms are found there.

Aus has 4X the number of fatal shark attacks vs the US, despite the US have 2X the number of attacks.

The place really does try to kill you....

The low number of deaths from both spiders and snakes can be attributed to one thing: anti-venom.

Then there is Mick Taylor killing people in Wolf Creek

The whole movie series and tv show makes me not want to go to Australia.
